Delaware Water Gap Area Campgrounds
I'm a newbie; 1 trip under my belt (Lubec, ME). My wife and I are going to be going to the Silver Spring, MD area in the next several weeks for a family event, and are debating on whether to take some extra days for sightseeing/etc. on the way down from Massachusetts. We'll be in Silver Spring for 2 nights and were thinking of staying at the Cherry Hill Park campground in College Park, MD. It's a bit pricy because it has a lot of amenities, which we wouldn't really be using, but it looks nice. I'd like to stay a few nights prior to the family event at someplace more rural and quiet, was thinking of the Delaware Water Gap (DWG) area. Wondering if people have thoughts on Cherry Hill Park, or maybe another campground in the area, and also thoughts of places to stay in DWG area. All comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Mark

Mark,
There are several good choices in NW Jersey area. Choosing one depends on how you heading south from Mass? 95 or 81 or...?
Once I see your route, then we can fine tune some suggestions for you.

You will be a stone throw from us.
Cherry Hill is very noisy as it is located in a greenspace between the 495 Beltway(s). They do run a shuttle to downtown DC which is a terrific tradeoff.

I have camped at the DWG a couple of times, and it is a beautiful area, tho if I recall correctly the campgrounds have now been privatized and are more expensive.

We stayed at Triple Brook years ago so that we could be on NJ side to drive in and take ferry to Statue ic Liberty and Ellis Island. It was pretty nice for a commercial campground, sort of park like. Appears to still be getting good reviews. They have an annual Christmas in July which was popular at that time.

I haven't really looked at routes yet, but I'm not a fan of 95, so I'd probably cross the Hudson on 287, then 278 to 476 and get on 95 south of Philadelphia. (I know some of the roads I usually take in NY are parkways, so I assume they're not an option with the AS. I'd be open to another route for a nice experience.

Mark,
Pleasant Acres Farm is a terrific camp in nw Jersey. Privately owned and family orientated. www.pleasantacres.com
It’s also near I-84 which might be good for your travel plans.

We stayed in Cherry Hill. Yes it’s noisy, however the Gray Line Tour Bus picks up at the gate, the City bus lines has a stop at the Gate, you can purchase any tour you want in the office, two swimming pools one heated one not, great food at cafe in park, yes we would stay again. For the convenience of all they offer.

Stayed at DWG Natl Park Campground. Right on Delaware river just south of the bridge. Beautiful park. Nice bath house. Full hook up and eligible for senior pass if you have one. Must do item. Drive North on Jersey side from the info center about 20 miles south. Make sure to NOT pe pulling as road is narrow but absolutely beautiful

Thanks for the info, but all I saw on the DWG Nat'l Rec Area site for developed camping was Dingman's (water & electric, not full hookup), Mohican Outdoor Center (primitive campsites only) and Worthington State Forest Campground (mention trailer sites, but no details). Were you referring to one of these campgrounds? Thanks
