Es-capin' the cold and a Question
When the temperature dropped in N Fla, we did the only smart thing possible, hooked up the Airstream and went to S Fla to warm up. We checked into a nice resort in Loxahatchee, and stayed till the temps started rising at home. Wonderful time.
Now for a question: While enroute we overnighted at a nameless RV park. I went to the pool for a dip, and there were several moms with youngsters. A couple of the tykes were in diapers and arm floats, and to my shock and horror, they went into the pool for a swim. Being essentially child free all my life, I'd never faced this before, and found that I really didn't want my refreshing dip after all. Somehow the thought of a dirty diaper being dunked into the pool like a tea bag just turned me off. The next morning during check out, I mentioned this to the Mngr, and to my surprise found out that it was acceptable conduct. Both the Mngr and his wife assured me that as long as the kid was wearing a diaper, all was well. Is This true? Am I overreacting? Some one please give me a reality check here. Tnx.

I would have felt the same as you. We have a son, grown now, but still would not like the idea of that.

Regular diaper - NO, swim diaper - YES.
There are disposable diapers specifically designed for an infant or toddler to go into a pool. They are sealed and waterproof on the outer layer. They are called swim diapers and are required for infants and toddlers in public swimming pools.

Well, I wouldn't have wanted to see any type of a diaper in there.
I recall several years ago that a pool here in central Ohio was closed due to a child being in the pool in apparently a dirty diaper and the water was contaminated with bacteria (I forget which one just now).
I would be the first one to say (admit) that I am probably too far out there when it comes to cleanliness -- I wash my hands often, especially while cooking. I've been kidded quite a bit about this by family and friends, however, it's very strange that I've never had anyone question me about the safety of any food which I have cooked -- it vanishes very quickly.
Last October, we flew down to Tampa and stayed at a very nice condo on Sand Key (Clearwater Beach area). I remember our discussing the rules, etc. which were posted on a very large sign at the pool -- no diapers in the pool.

A poopy diaper is one thing and a real nono and the baby should have a swim diaper or rubber pants cover. On the other hand, a baby has a very small bladder but what about some HD senior that usually wears Depends sliding into a warm pool and peeing about a gallon?

This reminds me of the scene of the floater in the pool in the movie Caddy Shack.
That made quite a stir with the people who were in the pool when it happened.
Funny stuff, but in reality, pretty disgusting if it happens when your in the pool.

My grandson wore a swim diaper in the pool at their home and it seemed to work pretty well in keeping moisture, etc. inside. Still, I can understand the reluctance of adults to share a pool with little ones. I like places with kiddie pools. Apart from hygiene, kids tend to detract from the peace and quite of a pool. It's great for them have a ball and I don't begrudge them, being a 'kid' person, but I am not always in the mood.
