Asheville Campground

I'm looking for a great campground in the Asheville NC area. Does anyone have any experiences there?

I'd be interested also. We're headed up to Virginia in a few weeks and wanted to come back through Asheville.

We, too, stayed at Campfire Lodges. Beautiful views, friendly people, but the road going in a bit intimidating.....

Lake Powhatan is a great place. It is right off the Blue Ridge, just follow the signs to the North Carolina Arboritum. It is beautiful, wooded with great biking and hiking tails. Only 4 miles to the Biltmore Square Mall area. The two times I was there we were tent camping, pre Airstream days. I think they have some sites with hookups, ours had water close by but no electric. We prefer the "Big John" section. It is a NFS campground, rates are cheap and there are host on each loop and gate security.
Facility Details - Recreation.gov, Lake Powhatan (NC) - Recreation.gov

PS. Take a 1/2 day and see the Biltmore. Well worth it. You can save a few bucks if you get your tickets online ahead of time.

My wife and I were at Lake Powhatan a couple of weeks ago. There are full hookups available, as well as water and power only.

It's very convenient to Asheville, the folks at the campground are helpful and friendly and it's very well maintained. There aren't many sites with really good views, but you'll get plenty of those as you drive around the area and visit the many sites.

I wish I had taken more photos there to share.
