Sealing fiberglass endcaps?

Okay, I've pressure washed them, hand scrubbed them, set them out in the sun....the endcaps still smell And unlike the commercial febreze can't touch this!

What I want to do is paint them ( both sides) with an odor sealing paint. Has anyone used BIN Ultimate odor sealing paint on fiberglass?

It says safe for fiberglass but I am assuming that means new fiberglass doors not the old school fiberglass in these endcaps? One side is bare the other side is zolatone covered with latex paint.

Sealing fiberglass endcaps?

I would use an activated paint like Industrial Imron 3500 HG..... But I use this paint for nearly everything...

I virtually guarantee this stuff will seal in the stink.

As far as the other paint you are looking at new or old fiberglass should not matter one way or the other.

I would want to try to get the latex off and a good scuffing/sanding done prior to repainting.

I wonder if brushing a coat of west system epoxy on the back would seal it?

Sealing fiberglass endcaps?

If it is a true two part epoxy I say YES.

Upon review, it is two part, it will seal I put it at 99.9 it will seal out odor.

I stripped them on my Overlander, re glassed over any holes and outlets that I didn't want anymore then primed with Kilz primer and re latexed. No smell at all. I didn't touch the backs at all though.

What did you use to strip them? I'm nervous about it dissolving into a pile of resin ?

If it is real fiberglass, stripper wont hurt it.

I learned the hard way a long time ago.....don't use stripper
on Fiberglass. Sorry J.Morgan. But I was a newby contractor
on a yacht and I lost my but on that job as I did'ent realize that
under the paint was after market fiberglass on a classic wood boat.

Reinergirl: West System will work just fine but it is quite expensive
as are all two part epoxy's. This is for the back.
On the interior that has paint.....you have to sand it off and start
over. Unfortunately, as it's a compound curve, you may end up
with an uneven surface if not very care full.

I've just dropped my end caps on a recently purchased '65 26' Overlander.
Feel'n your pain, still in shock at the work ahead.

I used a stripper from HomeDepot. It was Removal. I gave all the receipts away with the trailer to the new buyer but post #188 of my old thread "Shell off transmogrification" shows the results and confirms the product I used.

As far a paint goes POR-15 works very well on fiberglass and you can paint over it.

Thanks! Today I used the West System on the back of one of the endcaps, appears to be curing correctly so hopefully the mouse pee smell will disappear.

I still haven't decided what to do on the front side, I'll strip/ sand if I have to but all I really want to do is seal it. The endcap will be covered in wood so it's appearance is not important. I really don't want to go through the time and expense to strip something that will be covered! . Still pondering. Anyone put epoxy over latex paint?
