Converter/Sofa issue

Really? All I want to do is replace the original sofa. I can relocate the battery boxes to the tongue but moving the converter looks like a major deal. I am sure there's a thread (or 50) on this but I didn't see it. Where can the converter go? Is this a DIY thing or do I bite the bullet and go to a dealer?

Where do you want to move it? Your DC fuse board and ground bar will need addressed too but you might be able to keep it all under the new sofa. No?

Thanks for the suggestion. After a second look I realized that the big clunky part is the box that it all lives in. If I get rid of the box and find a safe way to re-mount it all flatter, then I can probably work around what ever sofa I put there. Even then I'm still thinkin of having someone else do it. I just don't like elec-trickity at all.

It is possible to fit it all under there. We reupholstered our sofa and fit everything under it.

While the converter (if it's the stock unit) may not be on its last legs, this probably is as good a time as any to replace it. Getting everything custom fit around a roughly 15 year old unit .... not a good idea.

I agree with Bob and that is the Parallax single stage 7455 you have and isn't doing any favors to your batteries. The good news is the more modern units are nearly the same exact size so any mods you make, you will be within an inch of any of the new modern 4 stage units so it should fit. If fact, most are a little smaller than the Parallax but not by much.

It's the stupid little details of "AC cable here / DC cable there" that can turn some of this into a mess. If you have the new unit, you can cut this or that hole so the wires all line up. Much cleaner job when it's done that way ... You also are less likely to have a stupid mounting bolt right where you can't get at it. I have data on that particular issue

Besides it's coming up to Christmas. The trailer needs to get a present under the tree.

I just did that exact same thing. I mounted everything on a piece of 1/2 marine grade plastic and mounted that on the front wall. It only comes out less than 6". As you suggested I did install a new battery box on the tongue of the trailer. I also built a cover to go over all the electronics.
