Value on this beauty ?

I️ have a canny ability to notice airstreams out of the corner of my eye and just noticed this. No clue what I️t is even? But looks very old and being used as a garden shed.
Would be a total rebuild of course, couldn’t even see the trailer chassis.

It's a pre-1953 Silver Streak Clipper. Cool trailer

That, my friend, is a Silver Streak

So ... looks to be a late 40's early 50's Silver Streak Clipper. Originally designed by Wally, so not surprising it caught your eye. With the vin number I could give you a closer estimate of the year.

It looks like someone put some rub rails from an early Spartan down both sides. It's hard to tell from the pics, but maybe they hung skirts from the added rails to park it full time?

Looks like an interesting project. Are the owners selling it?

Tom Patterson would know better than most. Also, he has a gorgeous version of one of these that I was fortunate enough to tour.
Google: tom patterson silverstreak
He's pretty good about responding.

Get it!

No clue yet, I knocked on the door and no response. I'll try again on the weekend, you never know, could be the right timing for him. His house looked as run down as the trailer ...
anyone want to throw a number out there on what a shell like that is worth? Would be way beyond my skills to renovate, fun thinking about though.

Might even be a very rare 1948 Curtis Wright.

I live in the country for a reason. Not to have people knocking on my door asking if I want to sell my old trailers.

Leave a note in the mailbox as some people don't like it when strangers come up uninvited. Might be an invitation to a near death experience.

Be careful with assumptions..

I grew weary of people knocking on my door wanting to buy my trailer, usually for about $500. One guy said that he didn't know anything about " RVs ", but low balled me because it was just an Argosy, and not an Airstream.

Things that went through my mind.

1. They think I am stupid and don't know what the trailer is worth.

2. They hope I am strapped for cash and willing to let it go for nothing.

3. They are ignorant and don't know what it's worth.

4 They want to do nothing to it and flip it for a quick buck.

5. They think that I am going to care that they don't want to spend a lot of money

6. They think that how little they will use it should determine the price

I am on the look out for a "NOT FOR SALE " sign. If the trailer doesn't have a FOR SALE sign…thread lightly

I, on the other hand, have met some really nice people who stopped to ask about our Airstreams. I enjoy the extra space afforded by living in a rural area, but it doesn't mean I don't want to talk to people.

Unless there are signs that the owner is unwelcoming of visitors, go to the door and ask! If you leave a note and you don't hear back you'll never know if it got to the right person or not. If you didn't live so far away I'd already be cruising your neighborhood to see if I could get there first!

I'm willing to bet they get hit up all the time and ask a boatload of $ for it when asked.
but if there's no NOT FOR sale sign you might luck out

Took me 8 months knocking on the same door and asking if they were ready yet to sell. They kept saying come back. So I did, that's how I got my 77 minuet

It is a technicality - AND a Federal Offense to put anything in a mailbox that does npt have proper postage stamps/meter affixed. If using a door slot, no problem...
Get a postal inspector in a bad mood and get a biggish fine!

So stick your note ON the door or in a stamped envelope. Leave an invitation "would like to take you to Olive Garden for lunch to discuss...." might get some interest too.

Think I'll go back tomorrow with a simple note and leave on his doorstep. I met the neighbor yesterday and they said he was a super nice guy. No for sale sign and kinda hidden from the street.
It's obviously been there for a long time , he must have been approached many times you'd think, even by regular folks just because it's so cool looking .. question remains though, if he said , sure make me an offer , what's it worth ?! lets assume interior trashed or not there even and Chassis rusted badly. It looks so low to the ground, may have been removed from the chassis even. Beyond my skill set to renovate anyways !!

I personally am no fan of the "drop by".
This is why I'm in the country too.
I had people drop by to try buy my Caravel. Built a garage & that ended.
Mail them a note with a self addressed stamped envelope.

I have heard of $2000 or more being paid for a shell of that age in good condition. Anything but the shell is unlikely to be anything but trash in a unit stored outside in a humid climate.... these had alum. Cabinets so they are maybe. Every segment that has to be replaced.. I would minus $300, window frames are unobtanium.

Been used for target practice on the side you can't see... or has had chicken coop doors added.... walk away.

Lastly if you don't actually want to restore it and find that the owner would sell... then help him post it here. Spec buying and reselling can be profitable, but is very risky. There used to be a business on the east side of I95 in SC.... the owners have probably passed, and still there are 10 or so Trail Manors sitting forlornly... 8 years ago the guy had 25 - 30 units everyone looked, but buyers, not so much. The reseller often turns into a hoarder by default.

I have bought a few by the knocking and ask method. You could also leave a note and follow up with a visit if no response. This is how I got my 71. Did not get a response for months.
