How did you customize your Airstream?

What I meant to say was a regular RV stove with oven. The little 3 burner jobs with the 1/4 size oven. They run of LP.

Even a full size stove can run off of LP if jetted properly as opposed to gas. Obviously not the electric models.

Hi. I'm a newbie here as well. I tried to stay true to the period with my 1962 16' Bambi, but used some nicer hardware for the cabinets, and made a cut-out in the kitchen cabinet to accommodate a convection oven. The trailer as found had a deck (and ladder - possibly to hang bikes) added onto the back. I cut off the ladder and kept & reinforced the deck, to have an aluminum box bolted onto it for a Honda 2000i generator. When boondocking, I can take the generator out & put it far enough away so I don't hear the noise - it's secured with a long length of airplane wire, looped at the ends for a lock. Also the catalytic heaters are not allowed in Canada. A small ceramic electric heater works well. The changes made can be reversed.
Did start with a Bambi somebody had messed with some - I think I have the wiring changed back to close to original. Some other little things too.
What do you think of my restoration so far? Any suggestions/ideas?

We've owned this Excella for about 2 years, little by little making changes to fit our lifestyle...the laminate flooring was one of the best changes we've made. I've got a few more ideas, when the "mood strikes me".....

Picked up a matched set of vintage airstream name logos, the ones that go on the front and back. Had them walnut blasted and dropped them off at the powder coaters today. Will go with Royal Blue letters and a silver background. Plan on removing the glued on vinyl letters and rivet on the castings. I'll post picks when done.

Hi, in the top two pictures is the original set-up with the Gaucho in the front and the Credenza with fold out table on the street side. In the bottom two pictures, I relocated my Gaucho to the street side and made a new love seat for on the curb side. In the front I made a new Credenza and reused my fold out table. When I first became a member here, I was amazed by what marvellous modifications people made to their TTs. I still am! So far, all I have done is repairs and a few updates. Sure, there was the re and re of my grey and black tanks, the new running gear (tires, full brakes), water heater, and so on, but all those were really repairs,and not upgrades or modifications.

So, in the almost two years that have passed since Robertsunrus showed us his completely modified lounge, what have you done to your TT, either inside or out?

I don't just mean the completely and totally wild kind of mods that people like Sergei have done, but those biggies, as well as the small ones, like finding new and interesting hardware.

C'mon people, post it for us!

The 74 Safari I recently purchased had not been well maintained. I gutted the interior to the interior vinyl clad aluminum panels. Tried to wash all the stains off the vinyl, then painted the interior Safety Orange. The window frames and ceiling panel are Florecent Safety yellow with an Aluminum stripe. I took out the propane furnace and hot water tank and plan to remove the tanks and plumbing.
In the fall I plan to remove the interior skin and belly pans and have the trailer insulated with spray foam. Couldn't believe how cold it was in the trailer in April with all the factory holes coming through the plywood floor. It got warmer in the trailer with every opening I tape off. New weatherstipping to be installed over the summer.
I'm making a frame for a bed at rear of the trailer with storage underneath. The new electrical system will run in conduit on the interior walls.
Drivers side will be the computers area with printer and scanner, shelving under the elevated desk mostly for my 60's Chevrolet truck books and memorbilia.
Passenger side the new mini fridge, microwave and sink with storage cabinets.
A porta-potty between the bed and kitchen area for late night emergency's.
The front section of the trailer will be an eating and meeting area for four.
I don't camp anywhere, therefore all the propane appliances are out. I plug in everywhere I go.
I work for a railroad contracting company and use the trailer as an office, electronics storage and living quarters. It has helped to live in the trailer even in it's renovation/repair state as it allows me to see the flow of the different preposed areas.

Skye and myself really like the look you came up with. Attached are pics before and in progress on our 84 Sovereign. Like many people I think we started off with basic fixes that "had" to be done. Repairs to propane tubing, new regulator, etc... But now, after seeing all the possibilities while we were at the Highland Lakes Unit Rally in Glenn Rose last month, we have embarked on some more radical mods. You cannot see the new speakers but they are in, the new AM/FM/CD/Ipod player is in a box on the floor. Hate to get rid of the cassette player , but it just has to go. We intend to re-finish bathroom tub/shower and sink. As you can see we removed the very comfortable couch and ripped out all the carpet in preps for new flooring. (Couch is now in my daughters den) I have to do a little wood replacement on the sub floor, but not too bad. Biggest thing is to bring the batteries and converter/inverter back inside. They were moved out into the tongue storage box by PO to facilitate the couch. Your double recliners with storage/end tables is exactly what we want to do. We will post more as we go.

And we saw purists and modern styles of "Vintage" trailers at the rally. They were all gorgeous!

Oh Samb....I am sure you crossed a line of restoration/refurbishment here with this sacrilegious modification. For the record, I LOVE IT! Do the sides say Leeward and Windward? No wait, that would not work, You would have to be constantly changing depending on wind direction..

I thought about putting "MIDSTREAM' on the sides, but decided to not get carried away.
The originals were so worn that they were unreadable. My son made these for me and included 4 "AIRSTREAM" ones. Didn't take me long to decide which ones belonged on the trailer.

We made ours into a bunkhouse model, the rear bedroom now sports triple bunks on each side and a floor cot in betweeen.
