2006 23' safari LS lounge

Looking at a used unit. When I look in the small outside storage area in the back, just above the back bumper (under the bed) is the floor of that storage area lined in vinyl from the factory or metal plate. I'm trying to decide if the unit has been altered due to previous water damage.

cyafishin, The whole floor should have been covered in vinyl during the build before anything went inside. So that area should have a vinyl floor covering. The metal plate could be an alteration, not necessarily to cover something, but just to prevent damage of the vinyl.

Can the metal plate be removed from the hatch? Is it screwed down? Try to pull it out to determine the reason or ask the PO.

My '05 Safari bunkhouse (same rear end) had the diamond plate flooring in there.

The diamond metal plate is over the vinyl flooring in the external rear storage compartment of our 2007 23' Safari.

I have an 06 Safari and mine did not have diamond plate. My unit is a rear bedroom model and in the entire floor area in the rear compartment and side compartments (it's a twin) was carpet covered in heavy plastic- definitely from the factory. Mine was originally equipped as an LS but not marked as such. Two years ago I was at the Tampa Supershow and saw one with the diamond plate for the first time. I talked with the Airstream rep who told me that was a fairly new thing. My thought after reading this thread is that it depends on what trim level and model you have.

Ditto, diamond plate in my 2006 LS 23.

2007 23 SE LS Front Lounge... Diamond Plate and NO water damage. I don't think this model suffers to the same extent of leakage that the 25 and 27 foot rear dinette models do. Not seeing any reports of this.
