^^. Exactly what I have in mind. A shop / barn to set up as a base camp.
A nice place to hang between trips. Keep up on maintaince - repairs.
Play with sports cars etc.
Now to find the right area for said shop.

Brother in the Fla Panhandle wants to go in together on such a base camp.
Have family nearby. That's a plus. Nice in non summer times.

I'm drawn to the Pacific Northwest, beautiful scenery , real trees and rivers, not so hot and muggy as the southeast.

Have only experienced P N W in dry summer conditions.

Oh decisions, decisions.

Cheers Richard

I love the Pacific Northwest, and spent 20 years of my life in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. You have to like rain if you live west of the Cascades. You have to like it enough that 3 weeks solid without a break is going to be just fine with you. You also don't want to have family members with grass pollen allergies, or there will be a period from April 10th to July 4th when life will be miserable or chemical. If I go back down there to live, which I would willingly do, I believe I would go east of the Cascades, to the high mountain plateau area. I would be thinking Baker City, Oregon, or the Blue Mountains/Wallowa Whitman area near there. The cold and the heat are dry, the air is clear and clean, the people friendly, and we often used to go there to escape the rain for a day or two, camping up in the several beautiful National Forest Service precincts.

If you want to visit somewhere quite remarkable, look for the Halfway valley east of Baker City: You rise and rise up over a barren mountain pass on a slow and winding road until you crest the top of the ridge, and in front of you is ...... Jurassic Park, a green salad bowl of a small valley with houses often dating back to the 19th century. It is a dead end, with the Snake River beyond to the east, and one of the world's little hidden paradises.

Richard, once you get your shop built don't do what I did which was pack it full of junk that ends up being discarded or sold off because it wasn't really needed or wanted in the first place!

After 7 years I'm finally reaching the point where the shop is set up the way I like it and I have room to move around.

Now if I could just get the time to actually be IN the shop...

Punch looked up Halfway and it looks really nice. Followed the highway to the Snake and found Copperfield Campground, a Idaho Power owned Campground that got nice reviews in a great location. Will have to head that direction on a future road trip.

..... and when you get there, you'll have to visit Babette and have one of her fantastic meals.

Dean,

Felt like I was there, and once again reminded of what I'm supposed to be doing with my coach. Ditto on the black and white effect, as well as the music. Another great production. You should be working for Airstream as head of marketing!

Thanks again for sharing.

Nice, but who is that famous person, we see over and over? Does he live in in some 7.5 mil metro with dreams about a country home?

^. What famous guy? Oh the great film maker with the electronic device fetish,
And a yearning for some country space to stretch out into.

The guy with that stunning pristene classic motorhome!

Great film maker, that guy.

Thanks Dean, nice job, loved it!

Cheers Richard

Really great video Dean! We were there a year ago (had been 20 years before that) and had the luck of getting a place at the Awahnee (totally Mica's doing). Thanks for taking us back!
