280 outer replacement skins?
Hello,
I posted this in the exterior repair threads and it was suggested I post here as well. So forgive me for the copy paste.
My 83 280 turbo diesel has damage on both rear lower corner panels and the upper rear end cap (my grandfather drove this with one eye). I have the interior skins out at this point in my restoration and have pushed out all the major dents by hand, but there are a good amount of creases and I do plan on polishing this rig after I'm done in the interior so it will all be very prominent when its all said and done.
Does anyone still sell replacement panels? This would be a great time to do the work.
Thanks,
R.J.

Not sure it is that simple anymore Nick.
Certainly none of the Argosy panels are available now, and when I did a check on the availability of early Classic panels as a replacement for the Argosy ones (for Peanuts front fender), I was told they were NLA. That's why Ernie had to start from sheet aluminum. Same when the rear quarter was replaced on Bella, even the AS dealer couldn't get the panels.
I also remember a posting I think from SebasSF saying even the panels for the 360 Classic were NLA.
Its a good suggestion to start with AS, but I suspect 'the answer is No'.

Not sure if 81 excella panels will fit, but ill look into it, thanks.
I will also give an airstream dealer a call but I think that'll be a long shot.
I may just find a body shop that is good with aluminum and see what they can do to "massage it"

Hello R.J.
I'm just done the road from you in RWC and I have a '82 280 also. I would love to see some pics of your 280. Please post pics if possible!
Thanks

Hey,
A while back someone poster that the front skins from a travel trailor, would fit on the back of our classics. Some trimming was nessesary, but like the left front would fit on our right rear. Does anyone remember who posted that? DJ

Peter shared this originally and others, included me, have re-posted, the key is they are reversed, front left is back right etc. Just remember the new panels come over-sized to be trimmed to size, but once trimmed they are specific for that vehicle/trailer. A used panel may well already be undersized for the next vehicle.
Airstream seem to be getting their act together much better with older units and Brad recently was able to purchase a new rear quarter for his MH, whereas previously they were unable to provide a panel for Bella. Who knows maybe they will also start reproducing banana wraps etc

Airstream were able to provide panels for my 250 (albeit ten years ago). They were delivered to an Airstream dealer in Cali and they did a great job fitting them.
