Turning over & running engine while plugged in

I have a few Newbie questions related to my 1989 340LE; this is one of them.

Is it safe to start the motorhome (ie turn on and run the engine, in park) while plugged in to 120V AC?

So for instance I have an extension cord to the Airstream to power the fridge, lights, etc but wish to turn on the engine every once in a while to maintain over the winter but is it better to unplug when doing this? or is it perfectly fine to keep plugged in when starting and turning off the engine.

Any insight would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Perfectly fine plugged in! You have 12v power from the batteries all the time anyway, running the engine won't change anything

The one thing I'd be worried about is what kind of converter you have. Older converters if plugged in all the time will continue to charge batteries until they essentially boil the batteries dry; newer converters will sense the batteries charge level and stop charging when batteries reach full.

Either which way, make sure your batteries are full of distilled water.
