winterizing 2019 sport 16'

I am trying to winterize my 2019 16 sport (bambi) and am having a hard time seeing how get hose and attachment onto the the inlet side of the water pump, there does not seem to be enough room? It is right up against the side of the fresh water storage. Has anyone been able to attach a hose and tube to suck the antifreeze into the lines, or does anyone have some words of wisdom for me? Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Alilee I have a 2017 Sport 16', unless your set up is different, see photo.
Red arrows indicate what fittings need to be unscrewed and detached as indicated attach your RV Anti Freeze fitting to the uppermost fitting that attaches to the pump in the photo and insert the other end of the tube into your gallon of RV Ant Freeze ensure that the fitting its tight as it will not provide suction from your pump if not fitted properly. You want to remove the filter and rinse with water, I don't reattach mine back till Spring, I leave the cushion out of the dinnete for better air circulation and its easy for me to remember to reattach the filter. In the open space created I can fit the gallon of RV Anti Freeze. note the plastic fittings need careful alignment as you don't want to strip any of the threads on the fittings.

Hi

There are two basic solutions to the "pump against a wall" problem. One is to pull the 4 screws that hold down the pump and move it a bit The other (far more practical) solution is to come up with a siphon hose that has a right angle "swivel elbow" on it. That makes getting it onto the pump a lot easier.

This is likely to be a DIY project since that sort of hose isn't very common at the RV supply outlets. You can get a PEX right angle from some stores or on Amazon. Vinyl tubing is a pretty common big box store item. Doing it DIY also lets you get enough tube to actually get to the jug of antifreeze ....

One example out of many:

Very recent history for me! In my 2nd year of doing this, I forgot to close the drain valve and also forgot to reattach the water pump outlet. There goes a jug of antifreeze! I think in a another couple of years it will be an effortless seamless beautiful thing to winterize haha. I remember it being very tight in there but did get it done. It might depend on the size of your coupler (is that the right word?) that goes on the pump. I have two and one is smaller than the other.

Silvr Bullet has it 100% correct. Plus a great photo as well. My only addition would be to be sure you have drained your fresh water. If not you will ave some water in your compartment when you remove both fittings.
Silvr Bullet what modifications have you made on your sport 16?

Thanks you guys! Great Info, I didn’t think about putting the hose on the input side of the filter. Thanks to everyone for such a quick response!!

farafield - since winterizing/de-winterizing is done so infrequently, I developed a checklist to help my memory. It has saved me lots of time.

Oh I was following one haha. But I need to actually check off the boxes as I go! But thanks, you are absolutely correct!

HELLO Sport 16 STL, I had a rear bumper and an electric jack installed at Colonial Airstream, when I ordered it new I opted for the front wrap around rock guards and 80 watt rooftop Solar Panel, I have since purchased a Zamp 120 Watt Solar Suitcase ( haven’t used except to test ) my most recent is a Towtector Protector that I plan on assembling this weekend and a Hensley Cub that I installed this past Spring. I try to make purchases that enhance safety and almost forgot my TireMinder TPMS. And make it more useful for dry camping, we go to a campground at Cape Cod for a couple of weeks so that’s important, we can’t use my 2000 watt generator there either. This past stay I had my generator but used it off site, that was a pain in my back pulling the battery every few days.

We have a 2017 16' Sport. The space between the in-line and water tank is about 1" but there's just enough to unscrew the line. You can get a 90* elbow fitting ( just like the water line ) at an rv store and attach a piece of hose to it for sucking the antifreeze.Click image for larger version

winterizing sport 16

A little late but this is a kit I bought from an RV dealer. Inexpensive, maybe $4-5. The extra piece, not attached to the tubing, is if you have a clamp on style pump and not threaded like your picture shows. I was able to winterize without unscrewing the pump.

i used the air compressor method

all lines were blown out. After 30 minutes, the HW tank was still gurgling with some water inside. i had no means to get rid of it
i left the hw tank drain open for winter
i also left the black and gray tank outside drains open

i am 50% done replacing the plastic PEX parts with brass ones.
this is for both butt and 90 degree corner.

its safe insurance.

also, be sure to add > 12" of flexible hose on either side on f the pump

that is what the OEM tells in the install guide. otherwise the pump could hammer the lines and make all that noise you hear.
as you can see above, AS does not follow that instruction
