Poverty point is awesome. Some sites not very shaded, but that won't matter in March.
Some sites have a lot of shade, but are much smaller.
Years ago this was a soybean field.
It is a beautiful campground with long pads and water, electric, and sewer right where they need to be- curbside rear-
till 3 1/2-4 hours for me- US Hwy 49 to Yazoo City, MS Hwy 3 to Vicksburg, US Hwy 61 to I-20 W.

Mgriffrus, the ball is in your court. You started this, so the final choice is yours. Poverty Point seems to be more likely to lead to higher attendance, being more centrally located for guys like M.Hony. And I have to say I like the idea of having a premium campsite with sewer hookup, that Chicot doesn't have.

What do you think?

Wait a minute-
Is it Easter weekend?
Is Easter April 20?
We are off the whole week after Easter because we are attending a rally at Lake Tiak O'Khata April 23-25. We were planning on going on over on April 19. We were planning on going from there to Yocona Ridge from April 25-27.
If the Two Weeks From Anywhere rally is April 19-20...

Okay, we've discussed it here at the house and we've discussed it online. Let's go with Chicot State Park. So....

Who: Anyone who wants to attend
What: Two Weeks from Everywhere Spring Rally 2014.
When: April 18-20 (Easter Weekend)
Where: Chicot State Park, South Campground Loop A
Why: Why not?
How: Any way you can. (preferably legally)

We'll try and stay on top of things a little better for the fall rally and maybe head over to Lake Bruin or Poverty Point. Any golfers out there that travel with clubs? Poverty Point just happens to be almost right next door to one of the top-rated public courses in the state, Black Bear golf course. Hmm.....Airforums golf tournament.....that's an idea!

Got my reservation. Arriving the afternoon of the 17th (flextime is great! show up for work at 6:00, work 6 hours, take off at noon with only 2 hours of leave, arrive at park around 4:30 pm.)
Leaving the morning of the 20th.
Reserved site #5 in loop A.

Where is Chicot State Park?
I'm still on the fence.
May come by myself because the wife wants to spend Easter with the granddaughter. We will see the baby one week later on her birthday.

I think I see it off of I-49 between Alexandria and Lafayette.
I ain't comin'.
Too far away for just a couple of days and too much else going on.
Maybe I can make the fall rally or maybe next year.
I will still spend the night in my trailer, just someplace else.

Yep. That's it, just north of scenic Ville Platte, LA. (name means "flat town" but the whole south of Louisiana is flat as a billiards table anyway, so they're all flat south of Alexandria).

Last "Two Weeks from Anywhere" I attended at Lake Claiborne State Park I drove six hours— seven if you include the time I spent fixing a flat on my toad— to get there, stayed two nights, and drove back another six hours by a different route. I can definitely understand why you'd think Chicot State Park is too far to drive for that short a time camping. I probably would have given the Lake Claiborne rally a miss, except I had already stayed at the other Lake Claiborne, in Alabama, earlier in the year, and it was amusing to say I camped at two Lakes Claiborne (Lake Claibornes?) in the same year.

Lake Claiborne State Park is a little closer for me.
It's not the distance so much as another rally here in Mississippi, Easter with the family, and the granddaughter's birthday.
Maybe timing and scheduling will be a little different for next year's spring rally.
I have only heard good reviews of Lake Claiborne.
As it is, we will be in 2-3 campgrounds 3-4 hours apart that week- if I decided to attend the Two Weeks From Anywhere spring rally that would make it 3-4 campgrounds 8-10 hours apart.

Pray for Doug

For those of you who haven't heard, Doug (doug&maggie) had a heart attack a day or so ago and is in ICU in Georgia. Doug and Maggie are the people I blame for starting up this little gathering of friends; they encouraged me to get all this together. If I remember correctly, they were one of the first to show up at the first rally way back when and made a point for us to get together whenever they come through my little corner of the world. I don't know about you guys, but I've made some good friends through this silly little forum and our impromptu gatherings and now one of them is in the Hospital and I can't do anything about it but pray and offer support from all the way over here, two weeks from anywhere. It's heartbreaking.

Maggie has started a thread called "Pray for Doug" in the Off topic section of the forums where she gives information and hopefully updates on Doug's condition if you want to go over there and offer support.

Well looks like Tom, Patti, and Raina will be able to make it to the rally assuming we can kill all of the thousands of mosquitoes that hitched a ride home in the Stream. Coming in Friday and out Monday. Site #9.
