Spring Break, TRIP,.. Need help Again.

You guys/gals have been so helpful on helping us plan our trips. Last trip was a recommended stay at Queen Willahemia State Park in Arkansas. Never would have known about it if it wasn't for a member here. It was awesome.

Thank-you.

Advice on our Spring Break, Mid-March is needed. Our son is a senior this year and probably his last go around with MOM and Dad. Do not want to spend a day driving to a location. Like to keep it around 8 hours or less. We Love State Parks. Don't care much for RV parks. We are planning on spending close to a week. We stayed at Buffalo Point S.P. last spring Break and had a lot of fun hiking and the views were nice also. But we are open to any and all suggestions.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thank-you

Shane

Sorry, I didn't know the difference. Didn't mean to offend.

I thought your post was in Jest.

Sorry again,

Hi Shane,

You might want to check out DeGray Lake State Park, also in Arkansas. There are many things to do in addition to camping, including (in season) bald eagle spotting boat tours. The eagles mostly winter there, so I don't know how many are still in the area during spring break. I have been on a tour on Thanksgiving.

Another consideration would be Mount Magazine State Park, beautiful views and good hiking, but not as much to do. I grew up in the area, but it was a much smaller National Park facility then.

There are other state parks with camping as well, but Wilhelmina, DeGray, and Magazine are the crown jewels of the Arkansas State Park System.

One of our favorites, and a whole bunch of other Texans, is Inks Lake SP. For spring break I would book no later than NOW!!!!

What about Big Bend National Park? It's the least visited national park, but it is gorgeous - right on the Rio Grande.

The best sites are those that only offer boondocking - no facilities. But we spent a week there several Thanksgivings ago with the kids - awesome!

Big Bend is enormously busy during the spring break period.

I've come to a dead end......I'm looking for the Perfect campsite. I have had a blast on all the places I've been,...but since we will be leaving during the end of winter.Mid-March..because of son's spring break, the trees won't be in bloom and almost no leaves. So I'm looking for a VIEW. I thought I saw a place on the internet RV park/state park with a site that you back-up to and has an awesome view.SECLUDED....With Hook ups...water and electric. I'm thinking it is in New Mexico. Which is still quite a drive

Maybe I was dreaming.

thanks,
Shane

A lot of people enjoy the adventure of this state park.

Not a long drive it is on our list of things to do but we have not made it there yet.

What about heading west? Head west, not on highways through Roswell towards San Antonio, NM - lunch/dinner at the Owl Cafe for green chili cheeseburgers, head further west towards wherever... absolutely gorgeous territory.

Matagorda Bay is a neat beachside park, a fairly new park, really nice conrete sites, with lots of palm trees throughout the park. It's a LCRA park with a similar atmosphere as a nice State Park. The sites have both 30/50 amp electrical service, sewer connections and a picnic table. The park also has a really interesting Nature Center with exhibits, a small store, a canoe rental facility, a coin-operated laundry room and bathrooms with showers located conveniently right in the middle of the campground. The park is approximately a 10 minute drive south of Matagorda, TX. The small town has a couple of great seafood restaurants as well.

When we visited last year the beach was really clean with tons of great shells (if you're into collecting shells) and the water actually looked nice. The only word of caution is that there are rattlesnakes along the waterfront sites where the Colorado River feeds into the Gulf of Mexico. So watch where you walk along the river.

Matagorda Bay Nature Park

I would estimate it to be approximately a 4 - 5 hour drive south of the Dallas metroplex.

Tyler State Park. Book now if there are any lake side sites left. All spots in Lakview loop are great views. Will be to early to swim but wild life, bike trails, hiking trails, are great. Very relaxing and beautiful park.

City of Rocks SP in southern New Mexico is a neat place. Might be worth a look to see if it fits the profile.

Oliver Lee SP by Alamogordo is also nice with lots to do in the area.

I have made an executive decision.....We are heading out on the 13th of March and just going to wing it...then when we get tired of driving we will look for closet state park..If we like it we will stay...If not pack up and go to the next until time to come home...about a week.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

That's the spirit! Sounds like an excellent plan to me.

Enjoy.
