If we don't get delayed for too long of a period we may get some photos for you to enjoy. Aluminum in the foreground would be nice.

Thanks! And aluminum in the foreground would be nice. It could also be a "winner" in the monthly forum photo contest!

I just saw on the news that the launch went off as scheduled today. NASA reported that a couple of foam chunks came off during the launch but they posed no threat. I hope the forum rally is having fun!

That is one spectacular view!

I was able to see part of the launch about a mile down the road from my house. We had a big thunderstorm that knocked out our power for 2 hours and I was busy hooking the generator up to the transfer switch. I realized the launch was in 2 minutes and got in the truck and raced to the end of the road. I missed the first 30 seconds of the flight. We are about 150 miles NW of Cape Canaveral. Sorry no pictures!

Nice view from Manatee Hammock

We watched the launch from Manatee Hammock, and would go there again for another launch. The view was spectacluar, without the crowds. The park closes its gates to non-campers close to launch time. There was a large grass area on the water at the end of the park where people went to watch the launch across the water.

Best of all, no traffic hassles.

Jetty Park

We just returned from watching the Atlantis blast off while camped at Jetty Park. The park is a bit further down the road than Manatee. We had reservations at Manatee but cancelled in favor of Jetty. We'll try Manatee next time as it seems to offer similar privacy along with shaded sites. We had the beach at Jetty along with the cruise ship passage in and out of the port both of which the Grandchildren loved. Kennedy Visitors Center was awesome! We spent two days touring that site and on launch day saw and photographed the astronauts traveling to the pad in what is called an AstroVan. Looked like an Airstream to me! Security was tight with helicopter overhead and SWAT teams in convoy. We rode in a shuttle simulator and toured the space station assembly area in clear view of components being assembled for future missions. What a fun experience and we highly recommend it for anyone who hasn't seen a launch in person.

Was down at the cape about a month ago and was thinking that although the roads are fairly empty, during a launch it's gotta get pretty busy round there....also was thinking how cool it would be to be camped in the Stream watching the liftoff!
