Don't really need the GPS....if you are coming from Nevada City, Jackson Rancheria is 2 miles east of Jackson, Ca on HWY 88. Take HWY 49 south to Jackson. Of course you should AVOID HWY 49 Auburn to Placerville if you are towing. 49 south from Placerville to Jackson is doable...that's the route we drive. Most likely the best way for you to avoid the Auburn/Placerville 49 would to head west on 80 to Sunrise Blvd..then south to HWY 16 (across US 50) then east up to 49. See you there. I believe Jeff posted an answer to your question just a few posts back. GPS will probably lead you into Rancheria the 'back way' and NOT trailer friendly.

Helpfull suggestions.

We're packing for an earlier getaway and with that I think of things that may be helpfull to you especially those who have not been there before. First I notice that there have been some recent questions asked here that have already been answered a few posts before. So keep checking this thread even up to your time of departure.

JRRV is well maintained to the point that lawn sprinklers will come on during every couple three nights so don't leave your chairs etc on the lawns. If you do mind water spots (hard water) on the side of your rig park at least 18" - 24" from the edge of the concrete pad. The pads are of generous widths so you will have plenty of room. They probably will mow once while you are there but 'usually' when they are aware of a large group coming they mow ahead of time.

Leave your firewood and charcoal home. No, it isn't free there....it isn't even allowed. Propane grills and firepits are okay but only on the concrete. The same 'kinda' goes for easyups but some do bring garden umbrellas...just don't leave them an the lawns overnight.

JRRV staff is VERY friendly and helpfull. DO bring your swimwear...there's a nice pool (4' at the deep end) and a couple of hot tubs. The park is pet friendly and there is a paved pet walk that circles the RV park. Obviously pets...dogs in particular must be on a leash or tethered at all times.

That's all I have for now.....I mainly wanted to caution you about the sprinklers and charcoal/wood ban.

Don't try Hwy 49 from i-80 to Jackson..

For Orson or others considering crossing the Sierra's or coming from the north.. Several years ago we were coming over from Nevada and Hwy 88 was closed for snow in the morning.. We drove over Donner Summit (snowing on east side of summit only..) and rather foolishly departed I-80 in Auburn heading south on Hwy 49.. In a number of places it deteriorates to a low-grade logging road, suitable for dirt bikes or jeeps, and I swear we saw our trailer bumper going around a few corners... We blocked a lot of impatient traffic, and spent almost 4 hours getting from Auburn to Jackson.. By time we made it, Hwy 88 opened, and it was much better road.. If coming from Reno area, take 80 down to flat land and go south on Hwy 99 and then back up to 88 via Liberty Road near Lodi..

Yes...as I stated a few posts back Auburn to Placerville is NOT recommended on 49. However, from Placerville to Jackson it is ok...it's the way we travel. Some sections are new....curves straightened and a by pass around some towns like San Andreas ? is in place with a nice wide 2 lane highway. However, unless you are coming from the P'ville area get over the HWY 16 east and then south on 49. Otherwise as John says 99 then east up to 49. If coming down 80 head south on Sunrise Blvd to 16. Yes it is surface street hassle but I feel less stress than 99 through Sacramento. Just my opinion. Safe travels all.

just slow down

if you are in a big hurry, have fun with that. there are some of us that do take the back roads, enjoying the suspense of adventure.but as others have suggested hwy 88 to Dalton road is for most the best route.

Thanks for the heads up on the fires and easyups. What about bicycles? Are there places to ride or would it be a waste to bring them (cruisers)?

Getting ready.

Hi, the Lincoln lug nuts were torqued today and my typical camping load was put in the back of the Lincoln. My spare gas can was filled and re-installed on my trailer. My hitch was taken apart, cleaned, re-greased, and re-torqued. More to do tomorrow.

BOB;
is there such a thing as "spare gas"? I understand in Lakewood you have spare water.
you know if you were better prepared you could be leaving today instead of messing around with your procedures. Just hook it up and go!
BTW- it's been a few days since your report of washing your rig, I think you should give it a quick rinse prior to departure.

So, I guess for the rest of us, we won't have to give our silver beauties a quick rinse over. Especially with rain in the forcast for tomorrow night. The best part of all is we will not be located above 8000 feet, SNOW. yikes The trailer will be coming out of storage tomorrow, just in time for the free rinse.

See ya this weekend...

Hi, the spare gas was brought for our Alaska trip in case we run out or had to use our generator. Neither happened, so I put the spare gas in the Lincoln a few months later. I have no where to go if I leave a day or two early. My dates at Jackson Rancheria are set in stone. But we may wander farther up North after the Rally. Tonight I washed the rest of my trailer and started loading my refrigerator. I also had to buy some things for Boo-Boo that just came in tonight. Don't worry, we should be there in plenty of time, before you get into any trouble.
