I belee that usually the fall thing is held during the month of Oct.
LL and I will be at New Brighton for 10 days in sept. other plans also exist for oct so it matters not to me. (as he jumps from roof top to roof top)
The northern coast is quite nice in the fall tho

Unfortunately we will not be able to attend any rally in October. We are going out of the country. Just let me know what the details are and we will try to come.

Life is like a roller coaster, a whole lot of up's and down's..
as we look for new rally locations, a few things i have learned from my experience:
* picking a large park means people can come at the last minute. we always have at least 5 campers decide to come in the last weeks before a rally. a smaller park or one that sells out will limit the size of the rally and will shut people out. this happened at pismo where many people were shut out of the rally. thats one reason i like casini and LSA because they can't ever fill up and anyone can come at last minute.
* many parks require groups to place a deposit. that means someone has to put up the large deposit (1st nites rent for everyone- usually around $1000) and then collect all fees. i have done this twice and will not be doing it again. it's stressful and not fun. so unless someone wants to do the deposit, finding a park where everyone calls in their own reservation and still be together is a must. some parks may be willing to set aside a set number of sites for rally reservations until a set date and then they are released to anyone. that would work.
* parks that are popular and fill months ahead of time are not easy for 25 people to get reservations together, such as tahoe. it can be done but the size of the rally would be small.
* easy access and large rig sites are good for peace of mind. those sites at american river look at little tight for my big trailer and others and lynn said access could be tricky.
* traditionally, norcal rallies have been every october and april. i would like to see that continued but with smaller rallies in between like lava beds. so if anyone would like to do smaller rallies at more popular or smaller parks in other months would be fantastic. but lets plan the october and april rallies as big ones (25+).
just some thoughts. any comments anyone???

NorCal Fall Rally, Jackson Rancheria, October 10-12
NorCal Spring Rally, Casini Ranch, April TBD
Come rally with us.
as a gesture to tim and kimber, it would be nice to rally on their side of the hill. i've been eyeing gold ranch for a rally for awhile. gold ranch is off of i80 just after the state line in the sierras. the freeway noise is not a problem and it has grassy sites with views of the mountains. it is a large park so getting sites together would not be a problem with our own reservations. easy access and big rig friendly. any thoughts?
Hi Dan,
Thanks for initiating the terrific rally at Casini! It seemed like an especially good (ok,"magical" ) weekend, but we're still starry-eyed about this whole flock-of-airstreams thing. Just didn't realize so many friendly, smart, funny people were included in the price of the ticket!
We love going to the mtns. but I'm wondering about the casino oriented info. on the Gold Ranch site. Is it in a very developed area or out in the woods a bit?
Sounds like a good possibility, along with the others mentioned.
We do live in the land of many choices, don't we?
Take care,
Me, me me!
How about an occasional Norcal Rally further south? I sure miss rallying with you guys, but some of the Destinations are just too far to drive for a quick getaway.
Lake San Antonio sure was fun, wasn't it? Is that too far South for the Norcal crowd?

Big DEE! Thank you so much for the consideration! We don't mind driving a little. LSA was not too far for us and a nice campground at that. Plus, the tarantulas were cute!
Kimber (Wally54) has been researching it a little and has some suggestions. Gold ranch was not one of them but is actully a nice find. We would not have thought of that one.
What she did come up with is the following:
American River Resort - americanriverresort.com - may not be big rig friendly. Neil suggested this one.
Ghost Mountain Ranch - ghostmountainranch.com - Don't know much about them...
KOA Placerville at Shingle Springs - koa-placerville.com - 45 full hookup sites, make your own reservations. Near wineries and historic Placerville
Far Horizons 49er village - 49ervillage.com - A little more expensive, near wine country. 329 full hookups. Lots of amenities.... Big rig friendly.
That is a start. I do like what uwe said and like I said, I don't mind driving a little to spend a weekend with dear friends. Kimber is really liking the KOA in Placerville..... They have goats and everything.
Missed seeing you since Kernville!!..we enjoy going to all the rallies at the many destination spots, north, central and southern Ca..depending on schedules and trying to keep the drive within about 400 or so miles is the ideal for us. in either direction..so many choices, so little time during the year!!
I watch alot of discovery channel and they have this whole thing about rock hounding and I believe there is a camping spot for rvs outside reno type area that is close to a you dig mine for black opals? Any interest or no.
Lynn and I would like to see/experience an October Fall Rally. It would be an excellent way to finish out another wonderfull Airstream year. Last year Lake San Antonio was great fun for us. We loved meeting some of our SoCal friends from the Forum. Unfortunately the economic situation this year will limit our long distant travels. As with many we must contain our trailer travels to closer to home. A Fall Rally in NorCal would be difficult to pass up. The several suggestions to rally sites so far are doable for us but our wish is not to discourage anyone with rigs too large or full hookup challenged. We just want to be with our friends and meet new ones.
To the site suggestions so far: American River Resort: great location but a challenge to our longer rigs. (except for one 32 footer that thinks it is a 22 footer ). KOA, Placerville; good location but next to HWY 50 (we watched this one begin in the early 90's each day commuting to work in Sacramento....finally the planted trees and shrubs are begining to block the view from HWY 50). A new Indian Casino will be next door next year. Ghost Mountain Resort; Nice location in Pollock Pines (20 minutes from us) and October is Apple Hill Festival time. We drove into the resort a long time ago for a look-see but would need to do that again for a rally assessment. Far Horizons 49er Village; Lots of wineries and HWY 49 gold country towns for shopping etc. A big RV park.
All of the above are near us. That is NOT a requirement for Lynn and I. However, a Fall Rally IS but in a reasonable distance for us. The coast would be nice...Casini can't be ruled out but let's consider elsewhere. The mountains can be nice but that negates spaces for our 'longer' friends...unless a casino parking lot is attractive. So that is our take. And, uwe, and frzout and others that share our thread from the south, Lynn, and I really would really like to meet you in person someday and hope we will at some rally.
Neil
