NorCal Rally- Casini Ranch, April 8-10
Hey NorCal Ralliers,
Casini wins the poll! OK so I called Casini and they set aside 10 sites with full hookups. The office thought the full hookup sites are best if it is wet. Too muddy on the river. Anyway, they were very accomadating in that we don't need to commit any money until April 1st so we can watch the weather forecasts and decide then. Very nice of them!
Here is the link to Casini Ranch.
Well, who is the first (after me) to commit and put their name in for one of the ten sites? Let's see a show of hands...

I guess we will have to be with you guys in spirit ....we have reservations at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park set for 8-18 April. While you are all strolling along a nearby sandy beach, we will be hiking through desert sands carpeted with wildflowers! Hopefully, we can join you in the fall.....

I'm in. I've got it on my calendar. I went by there last week just to see what it was like. I was checking out nearby sites in hopes that the weather would clear and I could venture out on my winter break. Alas, I did a lot of Airstream camping in front of my house, which was fun too. Casini Ranch looks like a beautiful place. It was very dark, grey, bleak and soaking wet on the day I rolled through. Let's hope for nice weather. I can't wait to get together with my new trailer!!!

Pencil us in...
If I can get my dinette/bed finished in time.
Otherwise there won't be any where for half of us to sleep
Nothing like proper motivation.

Count us in. At least two people, maybe 3. It's only 300 miles for us so that's not too bad.

Wow! What quick responses. Five spots already taken? Is everybody a little itchy to go camping or what?

Sorry Dee that you and Paul will be in the desert but those spring wildflowers are so beautiful, aren't they? Have fun.
Cam, cool to think that you weren't even sure that you wanted an AS at the last rally, and this rally you have a whole new rig to show off. Glad to have you in the AS family.
Safari Tim- Get to work. 'Nuff said.
caadoptees- I can't wait to talk "Baja"!
This is shaping up to be another fun group!

I may stop by to visit you all...My boyfriend lives in Duncan Mills...and I'm not to far from there. If any of you are interested in kayaking...I'm a good guide...it's a pretty trip up or down the Russian River there...Lots of wildlife.(Bring your binocs and cameras)...
The Blue Heron Inn, the Gold Coast Coffee shop or the Sizzlin Tandoor Restaurant nearby are good places to dine if you get tired of camp cooking.
The coast may still be a bit rugged in early April at Jenner or Goat Rock..so take care...

Nor Cal Forum Rally
Hi there! We just joined today, but have been reading the forum for awhile.
We would love to attend the Casini Rally in April. We stayed there last summer, right next to the Russian River and it was absolutely delightful. April might be pushing it, as far as the weather goes, but we have been waiting for a chance to "rally" with some other AS's. We aren't as polished (literally) as some of you and we're missing a hubcab, nevertheless we're tickled to have our very own '78 Tradewind Airstream!
Looking forward to April.

Welcome to the Forums, Luminati!
Luminati- Great to have ya here. And great to have ya at the rally. We had a grand time at the last one. Now let's cross our fingers that it will be dry enough.
Mike- Glad to hear from ya. Wouldn't be the same without ya there. Be careful out there on those wet roads.
Trailerbunny- Hope you come by. My best friend lived/worked at the Inn at Duncans Mills. Isn't the town great? Love that Sizzlin Tandor!

What? You didn't look at my rally webpage? Shame, Tim. Jist kiddin.
To quote the webpage: "The campground is on the Russian River in the quaint town of Duncans Mills. The list of things to do on Saturday is almost endless. The Sonoma coast is only a few miles away as well as the beautiful towns of Guerneville, Sebastopol and Occidental. The antique stores, art galleries, and plant nurseries of this area are well-known. And don't forget wine tasting. Or stay in the campground and kayak on the Russian River."
Casini rents kayaks and it is easy going on the river. Lots of birds to see like Herons. It's cool. There are lots of trails along the bluffs on the coast to hike. There is some kind of "Mystery Spot" in the hills east of 101. Lots of mountain bike trails through redwoods. Beaches are great for kite flying. How 'bout spending some $$$ and get a facial or soak in a mudbath at a Napa/Sonoma valley spa. Many, many possibilties.

Sounds good. I heard there was whale watching and an area near Jenner with sea lions hanging around. Is that right?
Got to get these rains to stop in No. Cal so I can get to work. Did I mention not only do I have to finish a dinette, the upholstry, learn to laminate the table, etc... I also have to lay a new flooring, probably a pergo look alike.
And all I see from my window is rain rain rain..... ;-(

There is a sea lion colony (protected by the Marine protection Act...so stay clear(They also attract the Great Whites)...and one or two elephant seals that you have to watch out for (they tend to be aggressive and dangerous but fun to watch)...there are harbour seals actually in the the mouth of the Russian River too..and river otters, ospreys, blue heron, night herons, etc.... and my favorite, the green herons ...You might be able to see the grey whales migrating off the points that time of the year...Don't forget your binocs...
And all I see from my window is rain rain rain..... ;-(

...
This weekend would be a bad time for Casini Ranch...4 inches predicted and the river is rising...driving to work this AM a large redwood branch fell in front of my truck on Bohemian Hwy scaring the pee out of me...

We're in..
Dee-
Count on another Excella 25, as we'll plan to bring the Condoluminum unless the Russian River is doing it's twice-a-decade "Hundred Year Flood".. (For those unfamiliar, there's a pole in campground with stripe about 8 feet above ground to show "high water mark" from last few floods...). Canoe trips on Russian River are very popular (depending on weather again..) as are wine tasting and other local water or ocean activities...

the 'mingoes
We'll try to make it again, probably doing some camping or motelling it again, since by then I'm hoping to just have finished painting the frame under the trailer! I have all kinds of time but no dry place to work on it. Still, we had a great time and love the Russian River area. We may even just visit for the day. Korbel is right nearby! And I'm bringing my hiking boots!

John- Great to hear you're in, old neighbor. If we can get this rain out of the way here in Jan., maybe we will be safe in April?
Ingrid- You got to come again. There is a B&B just down the road where my best friend worked for years. It would be perfect. The campfire wouldn't be the same without ya.
Ray- Great! Glad you can make it. We will all need it by April.
The response to this rally has been huge. It's been less then a week and nine spots are spoken for already. It took months to get that many for Laguna Seca. Maybe each rally will get bigger and bigger. I'll have to try to get a few more sites. Haven't heard from Tinsel Loaf or DogHouse yet either. Hope they can make it.
