50%? If they were that high there would be way more competition. The capital cost to get into the business isn't that high (compared to, say, medical devices or energy generation).
I'd say 15% is more reasonable. They might be 50% of variable cost.

Remember that part of the "over head" is liability insurance. The sue (?sp) happy public has to get there part of the proffits and we have to pay for it.

Congradulations Big Dee. I hope to be in the same position some day.

Geez, it looks pretty impressive to me the way it looks now. All those aluminum ribs inside look so strong and the outside looks like a space ship.

Could not even imagine how cheap looking thsoe SOBs look like in first stages of life. I guess it is in the eye of the beholder.

Vintage units are the coolest BUT I want the amenities of the 2004. To each...

Remember those little balsa wood gliders we used to get as kids?

More Pics

I got three more pics with an update from the factory. It is looking nice. Look at those windows!

Now I ask you, what RV factory would take so much time and trouble to keep me posted on my baby and unasked for? It's so cool. It's the A/S bond.

Big Dee,

Do you consider your 99 Safari as "Vintage" or a 02 ?

Hart,
I've never owned a vintage coach but seen some real nice ones. I just like having the modern amenities of late ones. So I am thankful that there is a fantastic factory producing wonderful units everyday. I like to think there is a new A/S baby born everyday! And one of them is mine!!!

My initial remark was about "slightly used " recent Airstreams , which have the same modern amenities as new ones.
I never compared new vs vintage. I just wondered if you considered your 99 so outdated that you felt it was an old vintage AS.

It's really cool that they are sending you pics....I will say that at some point, you really need to go to Jackson Center and see it first hand...it's quite an impressive operation!

Thumbs up New Updates Posted!

My baby is almost full grown now. Isn't she beautiful? Take a look. http://www.airstreamphotos.com/photo...=500&password=

Mitch continues to amaze me with daily updates. Are these guys great or what? I agree with Ken, I certainly want to visit these guys. Maybe the factory Homecoming Rally. That would be a blast!

It sure is impressive that an assembly line worker would take the time to do this. Might be nice to write a note to his supervisor or the ceo of Airstream and let them know of his actions above and beyond.

Big Dee,

Congratulations on the birth of a new airstream. We have the 30 Classic and we love it. Best of luck with your new palace on wheels. We also have the hensley, won't leave home without it.

Well she is done and WOW!

She is now in final tests. Toscano said it should be delivered week from Friday. Oh boy! I am going straight to the coast to play. Can't sleep.

Porky,
Any tips on passing the time this week? Besides staring for hours at my slide show.

Did you notice they gave me the stainless steel sink? That's what I wanted.
