Meet Miss Lily

We picked up this little sweetie at the entrance to Chicot State Park in LA on Friday afternoon. Park staff said she had been hanging around the office all day. No one had reported her missing, no one in the park was her owner. She appeared to have been "dumped" in gator country!

Couldn't leave her on the road, she came right to us and that was that. She was very thirsty and hungry, but didn't seem to have been on her own very long. She is the dearest little thing, such a gentle, loving disposition! She appears to be young but fully grown, and is housebroken but was completely unfamiliar with being on a leash (clothesline is temporary).

We are going to check with the Parrish sheriff when we leave today, to make sure no one is looking for her, then take her with us if no owner has shown up. Yes, we'll have her checked by a vet and pick up a proper collar and leash.

Wanted all you dog lovers out there to see her sweet face.

Maggie

Glad Miss Lily is in safe hands and congrats on the new addition to your family!

And as for people who dump animals, well...

Yay!

What a doll! How wonderful that you are making every effort to find out if she's lost from her family - and if she's not being diligently searched for... well, it sounds like you are a welcome new family for her and she's picked you out!

I think she's irresistable and am very glad she's going to be loved.

Congrats to you both and to Lily.

Animals seem to find those that will love and care for them. But we are lucky that they find us. I hope you have many fun travels with Ms. Lilly.

Exclamation Miss Lilly

You'll never regret taking her into your life. We did the same and it was the best decision we ever made. Somehow I think dogs have a way of knowing they were chosen to be loved, and they will return that love many times over thru the years. Congratulations to you!!

I really hope I never meet anyone that would abandon an animal like that. They'd better already have a sack lunch, cause it's gonna be an all day affair, and it damn sure won't be politically correct .

She's healthy!

Thanks to you all for your warm and heartfelt wishes. Only dog-lovers really understand these feelings.

She has just been checked over by a vet---all good news, other than that she has not yet been spayed. Ahem--we will deal with that promptly when we return home next week. She is also only 7-8 months old, in spite of her lack of puppy behavior, but not likely to get much bigger, they say. This is good, as we live and travel small.

She is very anxious as we are driving today, another learning curve for her.

Will keep y'all posted.

Howdy......rescue dogs are the best! My Grandfather Tandy used to say that you could never buy a good dog;a good one would always find you! Sounds like the truth for you three!! Blessings......Callie (mother to a 2YO black lab rescued from an oil well platform in East Texas)

What a doll! She looks a bit like my two dogs.... That's so sweet that you scooped her up. Life is always better with a dog or two....

Miss Lily is becoming more playful, with the support of regular meals, no doubt. The vet said energy focused just on survival doesn't leave much for puppy behavior. Makes me sad for her.

She also likes to chew on things she shouldn't, and is starting to growl and be territorial when a raccoon or armadillo comes too close to our campsite. She is a pooch who craves affection and petting---which I like. She snuggles up and leans in to you to be petted and scritched. Can't get too much of that.

Life is good.

God bless you and Miss Lily.

All of our dogs are rescues and we love them all to pieces.

I hope your vet did scan her for a microchip while she was in, as there is always that slim possibility that somebody lost her and is looking for her. And if she doesn't have one, you might think about having one implanted when you get her "fixed". She can't lose it like she could lose a collar with tags.

He did scan her, thanks for the suggestions, and we also left our name and phone number with the Parrish sheriff if anyone calls looking for her.

11 days and heading back to Illinois

Lily had a long weekend with pet-loving family and their dogs, and is doing very well. She appears to be well socialized, plays hard with others and is not aggressive.

She's also decided she's a lap dog--see below.
