Winter vacation destination?????

Planning my vacation for January and looking for some advice. I live in New York and like to go somewhere warm for a couple weeks. Went to Punta Gorda, it was nice but a little to urban. Last January i went to the Florida keys, that was great but its right at the limit on how far i want to drive. I prefer an Rv park with full hookups and travel with my bike and kayak. Any suggestions on somplace i should check out next January???

Winter in Florida

Land Yacht Harbor Airstream Park in Melbourne, Florida. Just finishing up 4 months here and it is a real nice place. Reasonable rates and close to a lot of nice places to visit. Check it out. This is a no pets, over 50 park.

No pets. Restricted parking. Board members bullying senior residents. Year-round leases but limits on number allowed in park in the summer. Beware.

“No pets” is an absolute disqualifier for us...

I agree. There are other concerns, conditions and behaviors by the LYH Board which are far worse than the position on pets (if you can believe it possible). Their attitude toward residents of the park border on being highly unethical if not downright criminal. Evictions without reason or cause, no accounting of monies and punitive behavior. And so on.....

Sounds like a situation that I don’t want to get sucked into. I just want to go on vacation, no drama.

Stay away. The people running the park are out of control.

We moved in the park May of 2010, bought a share of stock, was elected to the Board in 2012, re-elected in 2015 (three year terms), left abruptly in 2017 and sold our share of stock this year. We tried to bring about incremental changes and for a while we were successful. But then then ominous clouds descended onto the park and the Board went to the dark side. I am summerizing here as the whole story will fill this page. Though we are gland to be rid of LYH some of our friends who have tried to remain are now facing the same wrath we experienced in 2017. In three words “don’t go there.”

Yep, you are very correct as to your comments about current board. That is the very reason that we would never purchase a "Share" or even enter into a "Long Term Rental" contract. We strictly pay for a 4 month rental, stay out of the politics of the shareholders (some are VERY opinionated), keep to ourselves and enjoy the quiet of the "No Pets Policy" (A major plus for us). Yep, the current board seems to be out of control and may be doing some things that may come back to bite them if someone contacts a Lawyer. We keep quiet and enjoy the warmer temperature. You can not beat the price for a winter stay in Florida. We lived in Naples, Florida for 13 years but a winter stay in Naples is $$$$$$. Hope you are doing better now that you have put LYH behind.

Thanks uraljohn, I appreciate your comments. Seems you are smarter than me as I was blindsided and though I thought I was a pretty good judge of character I was sadly mistaken. There’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Just by chance, we left LYH this morning ending this seasons stay. It is sad that the current board has chosen a very strange path. As I said, we keep to ourselves and just enjoy what the general area of Melbourne, Fl has to offer. We are on the fence about paying up for next seasons stay. The few couples we do converse with are also non Shareholders and feel about the same as we do about purchasing a "Share" and being kind of permanently attached to the park. I hope that over time it gets straightened out as it could be a real gem. Glad you are doing better. I am not smarter than you. My DW was the one who was wary of signing on before spending some time there to get a feel. Happy travels.
