Glad you found a good buyer, you definitely made the right decision. Even though what happens to it is now out of your control, they will protect the integrity for the lifetime of their ownership. As time passes, it would seem, originality will become more important to future owners and values will continue to climb. That's been the trend for classic cars for decades, and now it is becoming mainstream to protect original patina and even the dust that has accumulated on rare "barn finds"...Although that would be a sad day if Airstreams only sat and collected dust!

I agree. I'm glad I was able to find a buyer who understands.
It's great to have sites and forums like this one to help spread the passion, and hopefully we'll be seeing more and more of these beauties on the road

I feel the same way as when someone buys vintage and totally guts the inside and makes it look modern. Hate that. I prefer to keep at least the overall look as original as possible.

If you feel so strongly that it should not be modified that you don't won't to sell it to someone that will change "your" trailer, you are either not ready to part with it for any number of reasons or have some serious control issues. Selling anything, including an Aiestrean trailer is letting go, moving on. Although it's really just a thing, to an individual it may be a part of a person's identity, a link to friends, a status symbol, an old worn out but comfortable baseball cap or pair of shoes, etc... Selling is cutting ties, accepting change moving on...no strings attached, no longer under your control. We all have some of those things in our lives.

I'm not a lawyer, but "fitness for purpose" comes to mind. If he hadn't told you what his plans were, and just went ahead and did a structural modification, he couldn't very well complain to you that it didn't work. Since he did tell you what his plans were, if you had sold him the coach, he did the modifications, and had problems, he might well have tried to come back to you for financial help. You were wise to not sell to him.

Give it good home....
I refused three would be buyers for our our 63 Safari before I agreed to sell...for 1K less than the best offer.
A family that really was as excited to get it as we were when we bought it....just felt right.

The control issues comment was kinda rude...but whatever. People who are passionate about classic cars and other rare artifacts care for originality and take the responsibility to protect it very seriously. That's a good thing, ask a museum curator.

Does HE UNDERSTAND what it is? That it is a vintage special? I guess you will have to do what you must. Just give it a few days.

I agree. I feel like some things are special besides being sentimental. I feel like it's a unique object that is not only appreciated by me, but by many others.
