Is There A Way / Livebright guy?

Is there a way to get rid of that smaller box with the thread postings in it. I find it to be totally useless for my purposes. Also that dummy that looks like Glenn Beck who waves his hands in your face. Of all the ads that have ever run on this site that is the worst by far that I have seen.
Thank you I hope,

Count me in, too. If it helps the mods, I've never noticed what the hell he's selling.

One thing I do is to figure out what annoying ads are hawking and to conclude NEVER to buy their product and to tell everyone I know not to also. Vote with your $.

Lightbulb Necessary evil.

What about annoying posters?
What about annoying subjects? (can you say REDUNDANT )
What about annoying moderators?
What about annoying attitudes?
What about our annoying search "feature"?
What about annoying members like ME !!!

If the guy that owns this private enterprise, (yep Virginia it's really not a community, or a club, it's a bizness....) didn't want the ads (annoying or not), he could do away with them. But I suspect that he loves 'em. And he has every right to. Money drizzeling in generally soothes most pains.

My point is that there is lots of stuff on this large forum that annoys me too. But I have taught myself to ignore much of it. Just harvest what you need or want to store away and pay no mind to the other.
This forum is a treasure. Costs most of us nothing, absolutely nothing and
has saved most of us many dollars in free advice and information.

My only real concern is that since it is owned by one person, (or maybe he has formed a company with other investors), that it could all go away in less than a heartbeat, in the twinkleing of an eye.
Millions of words and thousands of posts and threads and photos gone gone gone into cyber hell, with no chance of return.
Lets keep Andy happy.
All the more reason for him to be kept happy with his ad sales.

My problem with the small box with the thread posting in it is this. Lets say for example I want to remember a certain post in a certain thread, I may jot down in my notes, thread name, page 31, post 875. When I go to that thread I could click on page 31 and that is where I would find post 875. With this current setup page 31 features posts say 1-40, completely fouling up any sameness and then likely to change as posts are added to that thread. Another example, in another thread today, a post was written mentioning post #96. When I went to that page for me it was post #40.
I am only trying to point out an irregularity that is confusing to myself, and was wondering why this irregularity seems to be the new norm.
I hope that I am not confusing any of you by this question.

I think anything animatedcentermost on every page is too prominent to ignore and too intrusive. The banner with the guy is in a class by itself, no kidding. Little short of water torture.

Add the line
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net
to the ...\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file.

You may use Notepad to open and edit this file, but be sure that when you save it that it is not saved as HOSTS.txt, but rather as HOSTS (with no filename extension - it's a Unix thing). If it is saved as HOSTS.txt then rename it to HOSTS

Crusty I might try that. I just installed stopzilla, rebooted and he is there just the same. How is he getting through several pop up stoppers?

Somebody hold my hand while I go into the registry, it's scary.

It's a flash video which bypasses html code and the blocker programs which work on it. Those ads are usually crafted, recrafted and rerecrafted to defeat most popup blockers.

The url for the source of the ad (ad.doubleckick.net) is redirected to the local loopback address on your pc by the trick that I mentioned earlier. The flash code is never launched because you've told your pc to look for it locally and it doesn't exist there so nothing happens.
