Airstreamer Forums - what happened?
Is the Airstreamers forums and classifieds maintained by Airstream or by members?
Does anybody know when it went down and how long it is expected to be down?
Are their classifieds not updated either?
Still shoppin'

You could e-mail them..... Here's what i understand...
The Airstreamer forums (I am a member) were set up and maintained by Corp Airstream and they had some volunteer help moderating the site. They have been down for a while and when I called them and asked, I was told that "the forum were currently a low priority". I'm niot sure what this means but I saw a lot of spam on the site just before it was shut down.
I don't know anything about the classifieds.

What happened to the Airstream Forum?
Does anyone know what happened to the forum on the Airstream website? It has been down for repairs for weeks.

I was told Airstream could not give the forum the attention it needed, so they closed it. The last time I was over there looking around, all the threads seemed to have degraded into sniping, presonal attacks, and complaining.

I used to use the Airstream Company forum regularly. My understanding is that they took it down becuase it was not being well moderated. The site had become inundated with interlopers pushing various porn sites and other nonsense postings.

Airstream Web Forum
Well most of you have figured it out or heard a rumor; because of the attacks of non-Airstream posts, advertising and other things we all hate to see, Airstream brought down their forum. As those of us who live in forums, we know how much work it is to maintain, monitor and keep clean. Fortunatly for us Airstream knows what it does best, make travel trailers. So there is little if any chance that their forum will be coming back up. It appears they are having a little trouble letting it go but for now they do not have the resources to maintane the forum.

I used to visit on occasion, but they were having spam and server problems. I know at least one of the moderators was very frustrated because they couldn't clear the spam as fast as it was being posted. Like a lot of things Airstream does, it was a great idea....just poorly executed

They never have been swift at refreshing their trailer offerings, even at the model year changeover. We can expect brochures to be one-third out of date when we pick one up at a dealer. And have they even put out any more of their electronic Airstreamer Newsletters all year?

I can't understand why they had such problems. Most forum software like vBulletin, which is used here, is pretty good at preventing spammers and bots. I run a well used board myself (also vBulletin based) and this really isn't a big issue. Which software were they using? phpbb, vb, smf, ubb... ?
Does this mean the Airstream Browser project is 'canned' ?
Not much point now anyways for an Airstream forum... since airstreamforums.com has reached such a large critical mass. Everyone lives here!
I do find that this forum does have server issues at times. Is it on a shared or dedicated server?

Dave,
The reason the spam is a minor to non issue here is because the moderation team jumps on it immediately and if we don't happen to see it, members don't hesitate to let us know ASAP...repeatedly on the AS board it was clogging things up and would take DAYS to remove. I don't recall what software AS was using. As far as the server here we are being moved to a dedicated server but there have been some issues so it is an ongoing process.

I have to congratulate our moderation and admin team for doing such a great job over the years keeping our community SPAM free. You would not believe how proactive our team is and how quickly we move to remove the SPAM.
Our community is going to turn 5 years old in February and we have learned so much over the last 5 years on how to manage online communities. The amazing energy that collected here inspired me to start my own small business managing online communities ( www.socialknowledge.com) and enabling other forum sites to evolve into fine online communities as well.
Over the last few years (just like AirstreamForums.com) some of those other little forum communities have been growing up really fast. In order to reduce costs, sites have been hosted on dedicated servers with a few sites sharing a dedicated server. Just last night I moved one of our sister sites to a new server (which should free up more resources for our site) and plan to move AirstreamForums.com (and all the WBCCI sites we host) to a new server in the near future also. It seems the server we are on is just not performing very well overall and I think it needs to have the OS (linux) re-installed.
So look for fast speed coming soon, also some new features like social networking (who knows who), enhanced profiles (with your photo gallery, more member info, your network of friends, rallies you attended and rallies you will attend, etc), and better rally planning tools, etc.

Thanks to all our moderators. You do an amazing job! I don't know where I would be without this forum. Like some, I didn't even know Airstream had a forum. Thanks to AndyR for keeping us updated on all the lastest and greatest techno options out there.

Airstream seems very slow updating not only their Corporate forum but thier web pages in general. After researching Airstream for the last couple of years I am somewhat pessimistic about the Airstream company and their financial well being. My local x/airstream dealer told me that if He were going to buy a new trailer and keep it for a long time He would still buy Airstream. I just wish they would update things on thier website when models change. They only have a fraction of thier models on the site and not a whole lot of information about them I find myself going to colonial airstream in New Jersey to find details.
