When my husband was in college his roomies went in together on an RC helicopter - luckily he stayed out of it. Those things are a LOT harder to fly than they look. Lets just say it ended with a great deal of squabbling over who would be paying for what broken parts! That would be awesome for AP though!
I'm definitly going to get one of those $20 radio shack cameras. That's worth it just to play around with.

Latest Platform at LZ Excella
Well I finally found what I was looking for!!
Ch-46 whirley bird. Even has the right paint scheme!
So for the last year and a half I've been messing around with still pics.
Movin up!!
Fixing to mount a "FlyCamOne2" video cam to this new bird.
Camera weighs 37 grams with a 2 gig card and battery installed, 640X480 video at 25 fps and 1280X1024 stills, should be fun.
Gotta start practicing in time for the Casini 09 event.
Anyone else messing around with this stuff?
DG

Tim it looks like a lot of fun. I can't wait to see the videos. May be you can video an attack of some birds eating the grapes in your area...

Michelle--Do it!!! you'll have way to much fun.
My initial testing of the video cam have been completed, figuring out how it works. anyway it's all good.
I would suggest a fixed wing platform to start with, something like the "Easy Star" by Multiplex models. It's an entry level ship that performs well and is easily repaired- foam fixes fast!
Fixed wing offers strafing runs which look cool on video!!!
A whirley bird requires a lot of training, this new tandem rotor R/C I just got is more twitchey than my buddies R-22!! But if you do decide rotor wing get a co-axial and a flight sim!
Right now the flight conditions here are zero/zero, and will probably remain that way for a week, So I may mount the camera on my R/C car, get some belly pan shots.
Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance-
Hobby-Lobby has the camera and the EasyStar! about $300 for both.
Now I need to school myself on the movie maker thingie on my puter.
Then how to upload video to this forum.
A good pilot is always learning.

There is a wesite @ www.vimeo.com it is free and the quality is awesome. They even have Hi Def, Free!
I took some low quality video with my still camera that has a video option and posted them on vimeo. It's very easy to do and Free! Did I mention it was free!?
We have a link to the site below our names. Good luck..I can't wait to see what you come up with. I may have to get into it myself.

So, got outriggers for your first few flights? Why not wireless air to ground capture? Forget the flash card, do your recording on the ground and see what you're shooting...WISIWIG.
Can't wait to see the results on UTUBE.
Seriously folks as said in the previous posts these things are a lot harder to fly than some would admit.
Having a few hours in rotorcraft I tell all my flying friends, "flying fixed wing is like driving a truck, flying helicopters is like ballet." If you see a helicopter pilots hands moving...he's over controlling the aircraft.
Go get 'em Door Gunner!

Glenn;
No outriggers, already have a smaller R/C whirley bird that I learned on. This 46 is pretty much of an air pig. I'm not gonna pursue it's UAV envelope. Staying with fixed wing. The 46 needs NO air movement and a larger power supply, the with added weight of camera, CG considerations etc, you get it, I'm sure.
As far as a 2.4 gig camera goes, I have enough to do with piloting the thing and really would like to see a wysiwyg display but don't wanna fly into anything- dirt, trailers, trees, ponds, etc.
Messing around now with a "smoke" system, kinda cool,
BUT- I can no longer post pics on the forum unless I give up more $$$, SIG.

If I remember right this was how they took the rally photo at the RMVAC rally a few years ago at Salida Co sans pilot just a tethered balloon with a camera attached.
