Thanks, Hittenstiehl....it's going to be especially fun, because they just had an offer accepted on a really great little house in slightly upstate NY, near the Hudson.

It won't change their commute a whole lot, it will just be different.

I can't believe the amount of time people spend on trains out there, getting to/from work, and from one place to the next....it's just the way it is in the big city.

Inspection is Sunday morning, so I will get to go with them and see it.

Their first house, of course, so a really big step for both of them, but they loved this place, and I loved it, too, from the pictures. Meant to be.

It doesn't have a woodstove, but it does have two fireplaces.

It will be good to see them, and to see friends on the way in tomorrow. Looking forward to some me time.

I'm basically ready, hope I can sleep.

When the self driving cars come into their own trains will become obsolete. The only problem that is solved by the trains now is the lack of parking. The car will get you there but then what? There's nowhere to leave it. An autonomous car will be like a taxi only cheaper.

Ummm, Jack moved that rally to the first weekend in June this year, but I have a family gathering that weekend every year and cannot be there...nor can many of the other regulars, so we are going to be there the second weekend in June, the 8-11th.

Would love to see you, so hope you can switch. If not, and you will be in the area a bit, we can get together after the rally.

If you look at last year's rally thread, that's where that information is.

What town are your daughter and sil buying a house in? Both Alice and I grew up in that area and were just back there in June for our 50th HS reunion. Had not changed much in the 50 years.

Enjoy and be safe.

New Windsor, just south of Newburgh.

I'm at O'Hare, waiting for my connecting flight on to Newark, and eating my own oatmeal cookies for breakfast-on-the-go.

Clear weather, looks to be smooth sailing.

Know New Windsor well, had a sales person who lived there LONG time ago when I was GM of a company that sold steel in NYC and the east coast.

Enjoy your visit, NW was a great little town.

Had a nice visit with my seat mate on the plane yesterday, flying in from Missouri to work on rigs of some sort in a shipyard on Staten Island, I believe. Works for a company that contracts for this, and flies wherever they need him to for several weeks at a time.

Enjoying my visit with friends here. It is always such a joy to be able to pick right up where you left off whenever with folks...warm and comfy, kind and loving...I like.

I had a serious urge for Proseco yesterday, so we stopped on the way from the airport and picked up a bottle...yum. Not at all difficult for the three of us to finish that off.

The house is quiet...I am always the first one up, most anywhere I go ...coffee and I are waking up slowly, my most favorite way.

Many years of hitting the ground running at 4am...not no more.

Fishing and hunting are the only 2 sane reasons for getting up at 04:00.

I'm with Maggie, love the early morning, not 0400ish, but just a bit before everybody else. One of my favorite things to do in a new town or place is drive the empty streets as a place wakes up. Traffic is very forgiving before the city starts to pulse with activity, you got enough light to see the pretty reflections and you can see quite a few highlights and get pictures without people in them.

Of recent memory was early morning downtown St Louis, early morning Riverwalk San Antonio, and early morning in Shamrock Texas.

Got the train into the big city from NJ, was picked up by sweet SIL, then we gathered up darling daughter from work and made our way thru rush hour traffic to Brooklyn.

Out to dinner at their favorite Italian restaurant, yum, and now home.

All is well, nothing new and exciting, going to enjoy hanging out with them, tootling about a bit, and seeing their new house.

Looks like I now have a destination from Charleston the end of February...they will probably be moving in, I will park there for awhile and help them get settled.

Darling daughter has been pulling mortgage things together this morning, and we are soon going to be heading to Long Island for the day...a specialized replacement battery is needed for SIL's good watch, we will stop at TJ's, perhaps find some more yarn for me as my go-with stash is almost used up.

It is nice to have a vehicle, as one can see so much more of the city than from the trains hurtling here and there.

2016 is coming to a close, and I am increasingly reflective on this past year....it has been unusual in some ways, but good, and definitely one of both widow and general personal growth.

Not all things were necessarily sought, but suddenly there they were. Do we ever look for change? I think not...it simply comes to us, sometimes in the most unanticipated ways, and we sink or swim. I like to swim.

I am better this year end at fully embracing and appreciating what is good and comfortable, and increasingly more proficient at identifying and letting go of who and what is not....not fretting over it, just letting go, and walking away.

Be open minded, and generous at accepting the differences between us...but see things for what they are, and act accordingly...my personal motto for many years, and one more finely tuned this year as I am better at self care in my no longer 1/2 of a close two.

And, we're off.

Maggie

Maggie, I appreciate reading your self reflection as 2016 comes to an end. This, too, is a habit of mine. I believe it is healthy to take a good strong look at what has passed and determine what I can do to make life better in the future. If one does not grow and learn from all that we encounter in our lives...we will become stagnant and miss out on so much.

I think we have an opportunity to learn from all that we experience....the good and the bad. As I look back on my past year's experiences, most was good. I especially prize my trip west and all that I met during that trip....an all around wonderful experience! I did learn from another trip, as well. All experiences make us who we are.

Enjoy your visit with your family. God bless you and yours. Evelyn.

Hi ladies.

It is cold in NYC, but not going to last, and not nearly as cold as Illinois.

All is well.

Lily at my son's, where she's not eating much.

Left children and animals...always fear their loved ones will leave them again.

"The" member of her pack is gone. Which is all she knows at this point. Only a problem if the lack of eating goes on for a long time.

She is comfortable and loved where she is, she will get back into it in a few days if not sooner.

Enjoy your trip to our OLD "home town".
