The model # (16TDSS1659) is on the plate by the door, but we are looking for a VIN which should be on the frame. We can see a # has been stamped on the door side of the tongue up close to the body, but they are large #'s and I don't think there is room for all 9 of the #'s we read on the title.
16TDSS1659 is your VIN. It is a California 61 Bambi with the double bed layout. It was the 59th of 60th (did they atart with #600 or #601?) made at that plant.
...I'd always heard the number of 200 left on the road; hope that's holding steady.
I think that your number is very low. There were over a thousand Bambi's made in the 3 years of production. 200 is less then 20% which would be unlikely for a trailer as popular as the Bambi.

That number is indeed your VIN. The stamped number can sometimes be so long that the last part of it ends up under the propane tank base. It fit when it was stamped there.
Great idea to register these....I did about a month ago.....I read some time ago that there were a total of 866 Bambi Airstreams made from 61 through 63, does anyone know if that is correct? Also, the 200 left on the road (mentioned above) seems low, does anyone know anything about that number?
I just joined today! I'm really glad I 'tripped' across this wonderful website. There is a lot of great information here.
If memory serves me correctly, I have 161T150. Just 8 away from you on the production line mudseason.
1963 Bambi 163T244 made in Calif. Mostly restored...It is great to haul and I love to camp in it......just joined Airstream Club in TX where I spend the Winters.
