Whining Noise

I test drove a used 2013 Airstream Interstate with 10500 miles on the odometer. When accelerating, the van made strange whining noises for a second or two. Is this normal? Maybe the turbo kicking in or could it be the driveshaft? I like to know if there might be a problem before I make an offer.
Thanks, Gerhard

Hard to say without actually hearing this sound. I do sometimes notice the turbo whine when accelerating. To be sure you will have to have it checked by a mechanic that knows Sprinters.

There are so many possibilities…

Where does the noise seem to be coming from? Engine compartment? Under the aisle floor? Differential? One corner?

When you take it to your Sprinter dealer for service, get a technician to ride along with you, so you can point out the noise to him. Dollars to donuts, even though you can spot the noise every time you hear it, the technician won't pick it up the one time he hears it, without someone pointing it out to him.

On the older models if the turbo resonator was replaced you could more easily hear the turbo whine. Replaced with the aluminum one which did not crack like the stock ones did. Gear heads love to here the turbo whine! Jim
