I asked Airstream (Thor) as a leader in the RV industry to form a team to educate state governors in the concept of camping as social distancing and open their respective state and private campgrounds. Provide training to camp operators on how to process online reservations and site assignments.
When a campground is in the project phase in a local community, it has to be processed through planning commissions, police, fire and public works. Public hearings are conducted. Permits are issued and construction commences. Those agencies are responsible for the planning of enough hospital beds, ambulances, fire and police personnel, sewage capacity, water and other services for those projects and expected human traffic. So the "overloading" of services is a failed premise.
Open the campgrounds.

And what about the Coronavirus which campers may be bringing with them, which may subsequently infect anyone with whom they make contact?

Should this be part of the education process?

It would be difficult for me to trust advice from any RV industry leader as to the safety of camping during or just following a pandemic, as their inherent self interest would skew their recimmendations.

Think of how many things a camper has to touch, over and over again, even if you reserve online.

Not to mention filling with fuel and the other myriad of tasks we go thru before, during and after travel.

Yes...that's the first thing that occurred to me. I love Airstream and have owned many off the excellent products. However, this is something that they didn't think through very well.

We have a lot of hospitals in the area. Our trailer is parked in our driveway and hooked up to power. It can easily be hooked up to our sewer and water. I offered the use of it to a local hospital for a medical worker who needed someplace to stay away from their own family. No one seems to be interested. But we also have several hotel chains in the area and many of them are stepping up. That's probably a lot more efficient for them for volume reasons.

Airstream the company is closed by state mandate. Not going to get much from Thor or Airstream.

We are heading to Jackson Center Thursday afternoon (today) to drop off our AS for service. Terraport closed so will head back home (5 hour round trip). Should I ask then about this thread?

You will call them before you leave, to confirm?

Things are changing daily as the virus spreads, without being too obvious at first. For instance, Smithfield Foods just announced another 2 plant closings:

Email from Airstream about Survey

We did confirm, but got there after closing.
We just got back home. Parked our Safari near the Service Center and you can see the terraport to the right. It looked like they had new units parked there. Click image for larger version

Yes, they did build a new factory just down the road. The trailer line moved there at the beginning of the year and many of the other lines were going into the old trailer area. The new plant will also have a heritage center, but much of that is on hold.
