Hey Doc, Information on new models usually isn’t available until mid July, so it won’t be long until we can see what the ‘19’s will have.

Docv: The Airstream dealers recently returned from an AS dealer meeting, each dealer has the specs and most ordered 2019 units at the meeting. So, I would suggest visiting or calling a dealer to find out any changes.

Hi

So the basic data is up on the web site. The 2018 brochure is still what you get rather than the 2019 version. Not a lot of massive changes. They have gone back to the 2017 style integration on the Alde ( = you use the Alde panel ). They still have the 160W solar as an optional upgrade. I'm sure there are more subtle things somewhere in the mix ....

I thought I had heard there was a real door to separate the bedroom, but I have never found anything that verified that. If there was I would like that!

Wow, love the idea of “smart” Classic but if I should ever trade in my 2017 for a newer model I will wait to see how it really works. I will let others work the bugs out since I have already been a part of beta group and it was not fun.

Hi

If I was *ever* going to point to somebody who knew the issues of a bunch of weird new electronics in a trailer, you would be on the short list

Wait until at least December. You want to get the "revised, revised" version of that app.

I know what you mean. I'm staying a week near the dealer so the wife and I can test all systems. Crossing our fingers that we have no major gremlins.

Took the factory tour again today (I went yesterday but forgot I wanted to check some things out on the nearly complete ones). The new electronics system is not an upgraded Firefly. It would appear to be an entirely new vendor. No longer a touch screen on auxiliary pads like by door, couch, bed - lighted buttons instead. Main pad is a touch screen, but Alde panel is not integrated. I saw the the Tuft and Needle mattresses in the boxes. I didn’t see the updated decor package. And no solid door in the 30’. That was too much to hope for.

Hi

Oh boy, an entirely new super control system .... just think of the possibilities ....

Let's hope it is actually a Firefly, just with a different set of panels on it. The 2017 version of the Firefly looked like it had lighted buttons on it when viewed from a few feet away.

AJ, the auxiliary screens on my 2017 are lit, there’s also a button on the rear aux screen that turns the panel lights off so that when I am sleeping I don’t have unnecessary lights on. During my tour back in March I noticed that AS had separate the Alde System control out of the Firefly’s scope and move the Alde panel out from underneath the sink where it had been installed in some models.
If you take another tour today, please ask if that is a Firefly. I was told that it is still Firefly but just an undated (sleeker) panel but the actual system was the same as in other years. I could have easily been given the wrong information.
My ‘17 seems obsolete already. I see no reason to trade up to a newer unit at this point but it’s fun to see the changes.

Hi

If it *is* a Firefly, then all they have learned about interfacing and firmware will make the 2019's a bit more hassle free than previous years. If this is something completely different at the core of the system .... that's all out the window. It's start from scratch time / re-learn everything. Different buttons / panels should be no big deal. It's the brain in the center of the thing that creates all the issues.

If I was shopping for a 2019 (which I'm not ... ), the question - is it a Firefly? would be a *very* important one to answer.

Well I just got off the phone with Firefly and the tech support rep said , "Hmmmm I'm not sure. Let me talk to the boss down the hall, hold on".

He came back on and said, "Boss said we cannot comment on that right now."

I ask all I want to know is are you're in the AS classic or not. He said you and I are on a "need to know" basis and you and I don't need to know right now! He was being sarcastic, but he knows nothing right now either.

Interesting to say the least. The main system they produce is based on the Vegatouch system. He told me they have over 80 customized systems under the Vegatouch brand one being the firefly.

Just got off the phone with Airstream. The new supplier for the touch screens and controllers is Czone.

Firefly is out and maybe for good reason. The gentleman I talked to just went through training on the new system.

Hi

Well, it's not as much how good or bad the supplier is. It's more the learning curve on a new system. Training is part of the process. Adapting this and that is also part of the process. There is always some debugging of odd issues.

For whatever reason AS does not make these switches "years ahead" and then work stuff out before the first release. The install, the training, the adaptation, and the de-bugging all happen pretty much at the same time ( or at least within months of each other). That's fine if there are no hick-ups. In over 40 years of doing that sort of thing, I don't ever remember a single project that went without issues coming up .....
