Extended warranty

Does anyone have any experience with getting the extended 7 year warranty? Is it worth it?
Thanks

It has been generally accepted in this forum extended warranties are little more than a cash cow for the selling dealer. A waste of your money.

That's like buying "flood insurance" for an Airstream.

Big waste of money.

When you look at what is covered, then the deductibles, and where you have to take it for service less the manufacturer warranty, it usually isn't a good idea at all.

When I got mine in April this year the dealership offered a lifetime warr. Only requirement was to have it serviced every year where they checked 4 or 5 different items. Sounds like a good deal today. Will see what happens. In a few years.

The problem with any warranty is that you have to go to the dealer with problems. They are not (most of them) in the repair business, they sell trailers.
Best warranty is to take some money, find a reputable RV repair shop and go there 2x a year for a checkup (free or <$200). If the guy is good he will spot problems before you can and will respond to your comments better.
There are many excellent DIY guys on this forum and they make all problems look easy to fix. But if you want warranty go the above described way (+ this forum)

FYI : For any new Airstream owners I would definitely take the extended warranty. I wish I would have.

As I recall this just covered equipment failures, which we have not had any in five years since new. It was expensive and we turned it down, glad we did.

What equipment failures have you had?

Good Sam has been pitching an extended warranty ever since I signed up for their roadside service.

Any input from the Forums?

Very likely....Good Sam is 'pitching' it because it's a cash cow for them.

My experience with 35+ years at GM stores....the best warranty plans are those offered by the manufacturers. AS does not have such an offering.

The quality of the 'aftermarket' plans are only as good as the administrators. VERY few are worth the investment.

The Good Sam plan was relatively cheap. The Airstream warranty is only good for any major structural failure, and you'll have to take the trailer to a dealer. For anything else it's worthless. The Good Sam plan will reimburse you for mobile RV repair, which is what most minor issues need anyway.

Warranties on trailers are a different animal than other things. If you are not handy, you best have a good relationship with a mobile RV repair guy or live close to a dealer. And a dealer with a decent service operation at that.

I'm looking into getting the Good Sam extended service plan. $400 a year is a good price for peace of mind ($200 deductible). We've easily spent that much in repairs..and mobile service is not cheap.

We picked up the 7 year extended warranty as it included mobile repair work and has a very low deductible ($100). While I don't anticipate any big issues, I have friends that have had problems (electrical and plumbing) and the work can be expensive. It may prove to be an expensive waste of money, but at the same time it does offer some peace of mind for us new full-timers!

A big profit maker and a huge waste of money. Most have to fight with the insurance company to get work done I'd rather do what I can myself and pay for what I can't do, if anything were to ever arise.
