Not Alone
As brand new first time travel trailer owners I take some comfort in knowing others have shared the same experience and we didn't just get a lemon. As a friend told me RV doesn't stand for recreational vehicle but rather repair vehicle. Delivery of our brand new 2020 Nest was delayed due to a leak in the water heater (a faulty regulator?). When we did pick it up 10 days later and got it home we went in to set up a few things we discovered water on the front side where the bed is. The mattress was fortunately still in plastic but all the bedding was water damaged and is being replaced. That turned out to be an improperly sealed front window (you know the big beautiful panoramic one). We have had it out on two short trips and it's now currently back at the dealer having one serious and several minor issues addressed. The serious one is both the inside and outside screen door handles have failed. They are held to the metal frame by tiny set screws the size of eyeglass screws which seems unbelievably poorly thought out; at a minimum they should have been loctited but not even sure that would have been adequate. To make matters worse trying to continue using the door damaged it further. The minor things are stuff like improperly adjusted hinges, the fridge door falling out of the top bracket when opening and just some sloppy cabinetry seals! Then of course there's the issue of which there are endless posts regarding how crummy the 12 V wet lead acid batteries are that come with your $40K or much more trailer. So we're already upgrading them to 6 V AGM batteries (I had to wrap my head around the fact that I will get more amp hours out of 2x6V compared to 2x12V). Now I will say the dealer has been very good so far in working to resolve these issues but I know AS can certainly up the quality game. My Tacoma and most modern vehicles undergo tremendous stress and hold up. I'm an avid mountain biker and the bikes take a tremendous beating and rarely does something break. Practically everything is built with "3rd party" components so that's not really a valid excuse. I'm hoping we get thru this initial "break in," (pun intended) period and then things settle in as we are enjoying the thing despite the issues.
