Replacement of outer well needed?
Newbie airstream remodeler here. Like many before me, we have ended up almost completely gutting our '76 airstream. During this process, we have discovered these wheel well(?) coverings are in pretty bad shape (see pic). However, the inner ones seem to be pretty good. What are the outer ones called? I see there is insulation between the two. Do I need to replace the outer ones or can I just not have those? From what I've read, you have to get the wheel wells custom made. I got a quote for $500 for galvanized metal wells, but we are also concerned about adding too much weight.
Second question to do with the sub-floor. We have a couple of spots where water has leaked and rotted them out. Can we just cut out that part and replace a smaller section of the sub-floor if the rest seems okay as long as we replace and adhere new sub-floor to the steel frame? How do you attach the subfloor or get to the channel that it fits in along the wall if you are not lifting the skin off?
Thank you!
