Hi, I am re-installing my rear bumper on my Airstream. I had to straighten it and reweld an end cap after clipping a stump.
The question I have is does the underbody pan go inside the bumper (makes sense to me) or does it go underneath the bumper. It's been a while since I took the bumper off and I failed to pay attention to this when I did.
Thanks! -Alden

Alden:
It does go on the inside cup...on the '78 Sovereign I also riveted a 1" X 1/2" "U" on the INSIDE of the trunk just before the bumper support - I ran this all of the way across from frame to frame - and anchored the whole thing to the frame at either end - no way to attach the belly pan to the bumper, so I used the channel for a "hard" support.

I straightened it by putting it in a vise. Then I attached a clamp (Bessey K Body woodworking clamp) to it and twisted it back into shape. My bumper was mostly twisted, the end was splayed a bit where the cap was torn off. To fix the end I just pounded on it with a hammer and an autobody spoon. Definitely wear hearing protection if you do this!
