How the heck does my steps come out on my 79'??? I've tried to wiggle, wobble, and even pull down on the lever... its not working help?

The steps should release and drop by gravity alone, but can get gobbered up, rusted, and bent.

Pull the release handles or trim piece (I don't know what you have), While at the same time someone pulls down on the front lip. You should have some movement. If you can get it open a little, hit the hinge points with some PBlaster.

Once down, clean it up and lube it.

I'll make hubby do that... I imagine its just stuck. I can push down on the lever thingy and the step pops off the latch, but I can't figure out how to pull it out

The steps are just playing dead until you get your fingers close enough for them to get one.

Wear gloves. Leather gloves. Spray some Silcone lubricant on both edges of the steps where the levers are. In theory you move the levers and the steps drop down so that you can unflold them. You might try banging on them at each end with a rubber mallet or hammer handle and pulling and working to see if they come loose. If you get them to drop down then spray everything with Silicone again and unfold the steps.

My go-to tool in situations like that is the sledge hammer.

If the step moves a little, try squirting WD40 on both sides up inside where the step guides run in the supporting frame member. That should free it up. Then grab the lower part of the step that hangs down under the trailer and gently pull down and forward while depressing the release mechanism.
