Bambi 22' sport - "loose" lug nuts
Hello, I have a "new to me" 2017 Bambi 22', purchased used in southern CA Feb 2020.
I have learned a bit & have plenty more to learn...
I have taken 2 500+ mile trips-zero issues...
I recently repacked wheel bearings - after reviewing youtube videos & info here, bought tools, grease, etc. Everything went perfectly. Good learning experience.
I noticed that on one wheel - all 6 lug nuts were slightly loose (?).
The other wheel - all 6 were tight. I used a breaker bar w 19mm socket to remove, did the bearing service and tightened using my new $150 torque wrench. 100 lbs. The same 6 lug nuts - originally "loose" STILL have about 1/16" play - after tightening to 100 lbs. ???
Any info appreciated.
Thank you.

I'm gonna give you a bump
PLUS, check if you have the chrome caps/covers on the lug nuts, maybe they are loose.
Search lug nut covers on this site and see what comes up.

Bambi 22' sport - "loose" lug nuts
Suggest a fine tooth comb and find the red X before towing anywhere.
Majorairheads comment about loose lug nut covers is very good. Please clarify what is loose.
My other ideas and concerns.
Any repair history on hubs, studs, lug nuts or even a wheel?
Can you raise trailer and remove both wheels at the same time ?
Inspect and measure length of studs on all studs.
Install lug nuts and turn them on till they bottom out. All going on same depth on stud?
Compare good vs not good find the difference.
Please report back with more info.
Gary

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply. In reading "here" it seems that the chrome covers are a bit loose? The lugs nuts all "wiggle" about 1/32".
All 6 - exactly the same, on one wheel only (Bambi). I tightened correctly, by hand, then w breaker bar and finished w torque wrench @ 100 ft lbs. studs look perfect. clean, no rust, no lube.
I feel confident they are tight. I WILL be checking tightness on the road, you can bet. Think this is a non issue and appreciate the info.

I would check them before every trip just to be safe. If you got any grease on the lug threads or on the rim where the nuts seat, that can also help loosen them off.
I think the torquing double check is the best remedy for this and fortunately you have a single axle so not as many forces working on the bolts.
My owners manual also states 110 ft-lbs for aluminum wheels and 100 ft-lbs for steel wheels. If you have aluminum take the torque up to 110.
I have solid lug nuts on my 2019 Sport and this might be a way to go if you are running into issues with caps.

I would replace the two piece lug nuts. I just ordered a new set for my trailer. 24 chrome solid lug nuts was under 20 bucks shipped.

Steps to follow
- clean off all threads, inside and outside-
- replace the nuts with new ones
- you can add a but of anti seize compound, but not too much
- look at the manual as the 14, 15 and 16 " wheels all have unique torque values.
torque that correctly.
you can use the trucker's tip. get the plastic lug nut covers. add them to all nuts and point them all in the same direction. It does matter where they point, just that all wheel are the same.
If a lug nut comes loose, you will notice that the pointer has moved.

Not sure your post is what you meant to convey . . . are these corrections in order?

Do the bold italic corrections make sense?
