Torsion Bars - Do You Lubricate Them

Am I supposed to be lubricating the torsion bars where they insert insert into the hole? It appears in the photos that our torsion bars are experiencing a lot of friction.

If they are indeed supposed to be lubricated, can I use the same lubricant that I use for the hitch/ball?

A finger full of wheel bearing grease will help control the wear you are seeing.

When I used that type of hitch, I always used a bit of white grease to lube the ball and the contact locations where you see the wear points. I used Reese "on the ball" lube, but anything is better than nothing.

I keep a spray can of white lithium grease in the back of the truck and give both the ball and the spring bars a quick spray when hooking up. White lithium grease is used on farm quipment and on motorcycle chains because it doesn't collect dirt and grit. It quickly gets a dry film on the surface but retains the lubricating quality. I buy it at Tractor Supply here in Dripping Springs.

Thanks John. I think that's the same product I'm using on the garage doors. I make a mess with what I have right now for the ball and I can't tell you how many pair of jeans and shorts I have with a stain on the legs. Lithium grease sounds like the best solution for me.
