Trailer brake module on '15 F150

We were on the way home from the "Springtime in Kentucky" caravan and stopped for fuel and lunch. When trying to return to the trip home the trailer brakes would not release. When I unplugged the trailer from the truck, the brakes would release. After checking the umbilical cord for a short and not finding the problem, we were able to cripple our way home. After disconnecting the trailer and every time upon starting the truck the dash displays "Trailer Wiring Fault" At the Ford dealer shop yesterday they told me a module somewhere in the dash is bad. The bad news is the part is back-ordered for 2 weeks. The good(?) news is we aren't leaving for 3 1/2 weeks. Anyone else have a similar problem. By the way, my truck is a '15 F150 with 12,000 miles.
