Tow question for anyone with a 1 ton (RAM SRW). I have Timbrens left on my truck from my 5th wheel towing days. Now with a AS 27FB I'm thinking of removing the Timbrens to make a softer tow. You folks agree--not needed? Comments please.
The Timbrens are definitely not needed. The hitch weight of your 27FB is no where near the capacity of the stock rear suspension on your 1 ton. The rougher ride with the Timbrens is also not good for your AS as it will ride a lot rougher as well. Check for tossed cushions, etc., and broken interior rivets as a sign that things are riding a little rough back there.
I just swapped my TV for a leftover 2018 Ram 3500 SLT 4WD DRW. The TV has the Aisin AS69RC transmission and auto-leveling rear suspension. My 25'AS doesn't deflect the rear suspension enough to trigger the Alternate Trailer Height capability of the auto-leveling suspension. (This feature provides a 1" drop from the normal ride height).
The 3500 is a decent, fairly cushy ride as is. I would definitely take out the Timbrens blocks. I don't think your 27' AS will tax the rear suspension at all. You should have a decent ride without them.
One of my co-workers has an SRW 2500. We discussed the auto-leveling. His belief was that it would probably not be in play. He was right. In choosing to opt for this 2018 leftover, I really had to opt for what I could find.
