2000 Chev 7.4l Ext Cab

We have just purchase a 2003 28' safari so. We have a 2000 chevy 7.4L ext cab rated for 9600 lb gvw. I don't know the gcvw, and the truck right now is in another state. We havent even picked up the new trailer, and I wonder if anyone has experience with this or similar combos? I looks to me like this truck is barely adequate based on the numbers. Should we plan on trading for a duramax when we pick up the trailer? It sounds in this forum like that would be the most popular choice. Thanks

I think it will do it. I think the slide out is gonna be close if you load the coach up to the max cargo. I'd hope that the truck had either 3.73s and/or 4.10s and that it had all the needed coolers.

One last thing to think about is the hitch. Most basic hitches are rated for 1000lbs. The GM factory hitch also has a 1000lb rated hitch using weight distribution. The Safari 28 S/O has a 1200+lb hitch weight. You may need to upgrade the hitch. This happened to Jack Canavera when he went to his 30' Classic S/O.
