It wasn't exactly a message, or at least its exact meaning was lost on me. The technician at the dealership installing the replacement carpeting in my
1964 Overlander Land Yacht International included the Sports Section from the Detroit News, dated Tuesday, August 9, 1977. I remembered the trailer as having had white sculptured carpeting in
1964 so I had never questioned that the carpet remnants in the closets and under the bed as well as the sofa were anything other than original. Evidently the original owners made a number of updates in 1977 for a couple of dream trips prior to their retirement from traveling in 1980. The carpet must have been one of those special updates. The fact that the newspaper was from Detroit also made sense since the original owners purchased it from Kolbe on Nine Mile Road in Detroit. This is the first artifact that I have found in either my Overlander or my 1978 Minuet that I believe was purposely hidden for future discovery.
