Power Jack Repair

So on my list of priorities, buying a $200 powre jack replacement isn't very high. My original one on my 1970 safari has quit. Was working LOUDLY, but now doesn't do anything.

Before pronouncing it dead, I'd like to try CPR or something. I initially hotwired it to see if it was related to my other electrical problems, but that did show anything. I opened the bottom up to find at least six generations of spider nests. I cleaned them out. I opened the top, the motor spins freely.

I would like to remove the motor, but can't seem to get a socket on what appears to be a burried nut about an inch and a half inside the case.

Has anyone got a suggestion on removal or repair method? Tonight I'm going to try to bypass the switch, but it's hard with the unit in place.

Dan.

Whose jack do you have? Make....model.

There are a number of electric jacks out there. What you can do with yours to try and repair, depends on which one you have.

Post a photo of it if you can.

Thanks Andy for the reply.

This past weekend I'd did free it from the trailer. I disassembled and cleand the motor, but the bushing were gone and the distintive smell of burnt motor was in the air.

So, short of a motor replacement, I think I'm looking at a new one.

Dan,

I think Camping world has the Ultra 3000 on sale for $159. If you don't mind an old fashioned paint job ( 1940's 'crinkle' paint) and slopping wiring job, it might be just the ticket.

Thanks Mark, I'll be heading down Friday to Camping world to pick one up. Got to have it on by 3:00 to leave for Detroit!
