Caulking Under Patch
Hey guys, I have a few exterior patches. What is the best caulking for under the patch and in the Olympic rivet holes?

I like Tempro. I use it for most repairs/sealant.

TremPro 635 is what Out of Doors Mart sells. That's what I have used for several years. ODM advertises that it is recommended by Airstream.
TremPro 635 Polyurethane Sealant 360002 [360002] - $7.59 : Out-of-Doors Mart!, More Airstream Parts on-line than anyone!
TremPro is also available at Fastenal.
Some people like 636 because it has a slower cure rate, therefore a longer working time and slightly better adhesion. This would be beneficial when working on larger panels.
DO NOT use silicone caulk.

What will happen if you use silicone?

The first time silicone caulk is used to re-caulk it most likely will do the job, depending on the preparation.
The next time re-caulking is needed no caulk will stick to silicone. It is very difficult to remove if you need to re-caulk. Some people have gone as far a grinding the metal to get the residue off.
Some people will argue that silicone caulk is warrantied for XX number of years. That is true the caulk will last forever, but the bond to what ever the caulk is put onto is not warrantied. When (not if) the bond breaks and comes loose it is difficult to fix it.
add edit: I have heard some people say there is a reaction between silicone caulk and aluminum, but I do not know if that is valid.

I used Parabond on my Argosy, and after 2 years it is hard as a rock and cracks and can be picked off with your finger. As far as I am concerned it is way over rated as a sealer for Airstreams. I live in Wisconsin so it is not being baked in the sun to make it hard, it's just a bad product.
