Breaking & Entering

It seems to me that a crook bent on breaking & entering could grab the lever door handle, when the door is locked, and with 1 good yank, break the handle off of its attached rotating mounting pin.

Is that a weak point, or am I missing something here?

Is there a way of closing off access to that handle?

I also need to remove that lock to have a key made to fit.

Is there a special technique to getting that lock off?

Thanks in advance,

Dick

Navigator, I just broke into mine because there were no keys. (Long Story ). The service manual tells you how to do it, but the quick and dirty way is to disassemble from the inside and take it to a lock smith. They can remove the tumblers very quickly and duplicate you a key, or install a new one with a new key. There should be 3 screws on the inside and 2 on the latch side. Security wise it doesn't take much to break in. I have seen some posts about installing aftermarket deadbolts. This appears to be a better locking method. LOL, Kim

I second that emotion...

My MH lock "didn't". So I did a search on this site for deadbolts and learned how to get one installed for me. The security is excellent and very strong. After that, I still got the original lock replaced, not fixed since they couldn't find parts to rebuild it. Two locks are better than one.

Yee-ouch!

Take a look at ebay for a sad door handle story. It's a 1979 28' International...
