AGM battery question

The '76 Safari we brought home last weekend has a new (less than a year old) Absorbent Glass Mat battery in it. I thought I read somewhere that in colder climates the battery should be taken out and stored thru the winter. Should I take the battery out of it now and store it until spring? The battery has not been removed at all this winter, so are we too late anyway?

Jamie,

AGM batteries are less susceptible to freezing than regular wet cells, and have a lower self discharge rate. It should be alright if you check the charge once a month.

Jamie,
Any battery will appreciate being protected from both extremes of temperature, cold or hot.
If you're not able to plug the trailer in occasionally to keep the battery charged, then removing it and taking it home might be a smart way to prolong it's life span.
There are many battery threads on this forum, a search will reveal all sorts of additional information, as charging voltages etc.
If the battery is in overall good condition, then I doubt that it would be damaged already.
I recently removed my Interstate sealed battery from my trailer, and even though the lights were still bright and the tongue jack was moving as usual, it was discharged substantially ( 12.3V) . I charged it for a full day with a 6-amp charger, and after 10hours the charge rate went way down, to below 1A, while the volage went to 13.6V, according to my volt meter.

Thanks for your help. We'll leave the battery in now since we'll be working on the trailer and can re-charge the battery occasionally. Next fall we'll consider taking it out for the winter.
