Valterra handle extension

Hello I have Valterra T40 3x3. I am not able to remove the handle nor the rod so I can find a way to extend it. Would you please help me how I am suppose to remove the tube or the handle? Thank you.

When I was replacing the valves on my Excella I found Valterra valves would not work for that application, for two reasons:
1)There is no handle extension that uses the crooked solid rod like the Thetford valves do .
2)The Valterra valve will not work within the space between the tanks and/or with the tank adapter flange.

The Valterra valves work fine on my Safari since those valves do not require a handle extension and the valves are outside the belly so they are placed within the exposed sewer pipe.

So there is no way I can remove the existing original rod and the handle and install the longer one?

I'm not saying there is no way. There is always an alternate way. The answer might be to cut the rod and make a coupling, using the old handle.

What I am saying.... I did not find a way that was satisfactory to me. For $30 more I bought the exact replacement. In my case easier/faster trumped less expensive.

The valve was leaking while I was living in my trailer, so had to repair it quickly.

Rod extensions

A photo would help. There are extension rods for Valterra.

http://www.valterra.com/product-cate...xtension-kits/

There are also cables for a long extension, but they can be a pain if you have to use in tight places.

On a 72 the original extension handle is connected to the Thetford dump valve with a cotter pin. You would have to go in through the belly pan. You could cut a window.

In my trailer the rod that is the extension acts like a coupling, slipping over the existing rod, and a uses rivet to connect the two. Other year model valves I have seen used a cotter pin where mine was riveted. I posted a photo of that valve handle in the thread explaining my repair. (post #1, third photo down, the valve on the right) You can barely see the connection.

Hope this helps!
