Fresh Water Tank Size Issues
Hi, we are in the process of restoring a 65 overlander and are having trouble locating water tanks that fit our specifications. We have been warned against building our own out of fiberglass, and the cost of having custom made tanks is out of our budget. Does anyone have advice

Fiberglass tanks cannot be used for drinking water.

Hi Andy, I believe I just spoke to a woman who works at your store, she informed me that the vin number i gave her was actually for a 68 overlander even though the registration i was given says it's a 65. The dimensions for the fresh water tank she gave me are 24x52x6, it appears to me that the depth is only 5 inches, so how does the tank fit into to the frame? Is it installed so that the floor is raised up an inch under the front window? Any help or answers would be appreciated. Jessica & Joseph

That tank fits underneath the front lounge, as it was originally designed to do, no problem.

Sorry, I do not.
But the front of the front lounge was on the floor. Then part way back, the lounge was elevated so thet the tank water would fit.
The rear part of the lounge was supported at the rear corners.
I can e-mail a photo of that tank to you, if you wish.

68-69 water tank.
The correct original tank measures 6 x 24 x 51 inches, and is 30 gallons.
They come with all the fittings and gauge connections already installed.
We can e-mail a photo to you, if you wish.

I replaced the fresh water tank in my ’64 Safari with a new tank from the original manufacturer. They had various sizes, I bought a 40 gallon tank that fit just right under the gaucho. I had to make new hold down brackets/straps. Works great.
They are in Northern California somewhere. I can find company info if you want it.
