Polishing the Bambi

I only get to work on this project on Fridays, so I know it's going to take a while. But after only one day of working on it, I must admit that it's rather addicting!

Looking good, when you get thru you can come down and do mine. It needs a little touch up.☺

Okay. Still working on the front end-cap and making great progress on the upper half. I'm using Nu-Vite F7, but it's not cutting through the little peck marks on the lower area (see pic). Do i need a coarser compound or just more elbow-grease? Also, that scratch mark feels more like paint--any ideas for removing?

Thanks in advance for the input!

I have a Bambi II that I've done a little polishing on. It is BADLY oxidized everywhere. I have used this method with pretty good results, although it's very time consuming:
1. Right angle air drill with very fine grey scotchbrite pad
2. Black bar with wheel
3. Wet sand with 600,800,1000 (by hand)
4. Compound with F9, F7, C,
5. Cyclo with S

Now, maybe yours isn't as badly corroded as mine, so you can skip steps 1 & 2 & 3 and try F9 first. If that doesn't do the trick, move backwards on the list until you find that it's working for you. Just be glad it isn't a 31 footer!

Here's mine through step 3 and compounded with F9--I haven't finished yet--I just wanted to see how it would look:

We used the green bar from Caswell and a 10' wheel on the tough areas.

I'm now 19 hours into the polishing! I'm waiting on my Nuvite F9 so I can get the imperfections out of the front bottom panel and polishing wheels so I can get into the tighter spots.

Question: how do you get the water stains off!? I've used F9 F7 and C but they still show! Am I missing something or just not taking enough time on it?

Send a message via Skype™ to Melody Ranch
compounding with C then Cyclo C then Cyclo S. I fight this problem all the time.

Sounds like something is mixed with the water. It took us six hours to remove water/mag choride stains on our lower front quarter panels we picked up during a rain shower on a gravel road.....after we had finished the original polishing.

I'm making progress--slowly but surely (Fridays don't come around fast enough for me!). My new Cyclo from Vintage Trailer Supply just came in, so that's my new motivation to get finished up with the oxidation removal!

I just noticed that I haven't posted any new pics in a while. I only get to work on this on Fridays, but I'm making progress!

Hey RC
Looks great! What are you using to get at the roof?

Thanks, Tim! I stand on a 4' scaffold and REACH over to get the center. I've read that some people sit on the roof, but it just seemed way too unstable to do that.

HEY RC
Just bought a 4 foot scaffold from Menards (yellow with black decking) probably the same as yours but I haven't had a chance to use it yet.
