Stripped AC cold return vent screw

Hello....I have a 2021 Globetrotter 25FB one of the screws for the cold air return vent stripped the first time removed. Aside from using the next larger size screw, any ideas for a repair? It seams there would be a better system for screws that are removed frequently for the AC intake vent cleaning.
Thanks!

Is there enough room to put in a threaded rivet?

Hello John ....Thanks for the suggestion!...I'm not sure if I have enough room. However,I was not aware of a threaded rivet and will look into it.

Here are a couple of links on the jack nuts (threaded rivet).

You may be able to flatten the aluminum around the hole with a pair of pliers and use the same screw, worked for me once. Bigger screw is the easiest way to do it, you’ll be much more careful tightening them than the person that stripped them.

If you go the jacknut route you will be drilling a bigger hole anyway. I eventually went with the jacknuts and screws with a knob on the end so no tool required for removal. Sorry I can’t remember what the screws are called, maybe someone else will chime in.

I've seen them called thumb screws or knob screws. An aluminum rivet nut is smaller in diameter than a jack nut so requires a smaller hole. It's 4:50 pm here. My post time says 10:50. What time zone do they use here? Off the subject, I know.

I’ve used a C-clamp to successfully close both sides of the hole enough to reuse the same screw. I use some card stock on the visible side to keep from marring the aluminum, as the screw jaw of the clamp tends to rotate and walk out of place.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but does anybody have a link to these rivet nuts? Our 2023 FC came with 3 of the screws stripped and I’m thinking about just replacing them right instead of mucking with bigger screws or the dealer.

I don't know how to do a link but I got some aluminum and stainless rivet nuts and the tool at Harbor Freight. One tip is to use #8 oval headed screws as they give you more surface area for the driver and use a drill bit that is real close to the diameter of the rivet. You may have to use a numbered or lettered bit.

Vent Screw Solutions

Have a look at about the 14 minute mark in this video. It shows how to fix your vent scree problem.

NoLox A/C Filter screw kit

Upon removing my filter covers on 2021 27' Flying Cloud I see that the original screw holes on each (4) intakes are offset to the right. Plenty of room to widen the holes to 5/16th on the right. On the left the original screw holes are very close to the vent hole. If I enlarge to 5/16ths it will cut into the vent hole. Can I still install the screw jacks if i have 70% purchase area for the screw jack base?
