New owner question

Hello,
I have just acquired a 1974 24 foot Argosy trailer. In order to get it home I would like to get prepared. Does anyone know what the wheel size is on one of these. How many lug nuts. I will have to get a spare tire ready for the travel home. The trailer wheels are not accessible right now and the seller is unsure.

Hi. Welcome and congratulations.

I found this "spec sheet" for 1973 Argosy trailers on the Airstream website. I didn't look hard but didn't see a 1974 there...

Do you know how long it has been sitting? You may need more than a spare tire - you may need 4 tires and possibly new axles and brakes just to tow it home safely.

People here with more experience can probably give you more specifics but please be cautious about this and be sure it's roadworthy.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the advise. At this point I'm not sure of anything. We hope to make a careful inspection soon.

Welcome and cool sounds like the fun is about to begin and if it is not fun then you need to reevaluate your purchase. Please take and post some pictures and as for the axles they should be okay but pick up a small tub of axle bearing grease and of course the tires. You may be able to get some there and since that is where you will have them mounted to the rims there then I would wait. If you have a harbor freight close then pick up the temp trailer lights and some duct tape (duct tape fixes everything but tires) look up the specs on the airstream site for the tow ball because they range from 2 inch to 2&5/16. Buy a 16gig chip for your camera and record everything so you can remember how it goes back together. They (the pictures also help when you have questions)

Welcome to Airforums.

Probably 95% of Airstreams take 6x15" wheels with a 6" bolt pattern. Go to any trailer store and they should have them in stock.

good luck, Dan

New owner of a 1974 Argosy

Thanks to all for your advice. We are just heading out to the west coast and when we are back the fun begins. We have some recent photos. We are taking it to CanAm in London for an inspection. I don,t think it looks too bad......
